    Album Notes
This deluxe edition of BAND ON THE RUN contains the original album with superbly remastered sound, a detailed booklet, and a bonus disc that features dialogue from and interviews with the band, as well as some live recordings and alternate takes of songs from the album. Includes original album artwork, song lyrics, and a color photo insert in a deluxe slipcase.Paul McCartney/Paul McCartney & Wings/Wings (Paul McCartney): Paul McCartney (vocals, guitar, keyboards, bass instrument, drums); Denny Laine (guitar, percussion, background vocals); Linda McCartney (keyboards, background vocals).Additional personnel: Howie Casey (saxophone).Neither the rustic Wild Life nor the slick AOR flourishes of Red Rose Speedway earned Paul McCartney much respect, so he made the self-consciously ambitious Band on the Run partially to rebuke his critics. On the surface, Band on the Run appears to be constructed as a song cycle in the vein of Abbey Road, but subsequent listens reveal that there are only passing similarities between the two albums. Some of this is quite showy, particularly the whimsical mini-suite of the title track and the surging surrealism of "Jet," but some of the most enduring moments are simpler, like the sunny acoustic "Bluebird" and rocking, rolling "Helen Wheels." Sometimes McCartney's whimsy is a little strong, but song for song Band on the Run is always enjoyable, whether McCartney is running through "Picasso's Last Words" or responding to John Lennon's "How Do You Sleep" taunts with "Let Me Roll It." ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine

    Editorial Reviews
5 stars out of 5 -- BAND ON THE RUN is still magisterial, for its melodies, invention and sheer confidence....Genuinely great.
    Uncut

4 stars out of 5 -- [T]he album saw the long-overdue return of Paul's creative focus, from the urgency of 'Jet' to the subtle jazz of 'Bluebird'...

...Acclaimed as Wings' finest...and the title track is unquestionably fine...
    Mojo

4 stars out of 5 -- [The songs] remain some of McCartney's deftest pop creations, none more so than the irresistible, three-part drama of the title track...
    Mojo

...Even Lennon once called it 'a great album'. Its multi-faceted big-band rock has withstood the test of time, posturing firm like an iceberg of creative brilliance...

    Great album

    Created: 06/04/10
    Great album and work.
McCartney the main force behind the Beatles. He's music excels far. His work with Wings to me was the finest. Will not equal to the Beatles era but as a solo remains a living classic legend with no equal. Breaks world records. I don't know where Michael Jackson got a kingship from. Does not make sense. "Move over here is Paul".

This Disc Is All You Need

    Created: 08/07/08
For any fan of the Beatles or Wings/Paul McCartney, this cd is well worth the effort to buy. This cd has some of the best McCartney songs on it as well as the bonus disc with the interviews and alternatve versions of some of the songs. Frankly, you could just buy this cd and a greatest hits and that would be all you need for a Wings/Paul McCartney collection.

    70's Heritage and Cultural phenom

    Created: 03/09/10
I have always liked Paul McCarneys "Venus and Mars" vinyl album but recently shopped for the CD version. During this time of shopping I kept reading that "Band on the Run" was suppossed to be Paul's best work. So I decided to shop for this CD. I was able to find a brand new 25th anniversary edition for very reasonable. The thing I like most is the way this album transports you back in time. For me I can't think of a better piece of musical heritage that just seems to lock in that 70's state of mind like this album. This definitely was some of Pauls best work and brings back some of the best times. 5 1/2 Stars

Band On The Run: 25th Anniversary Edition by Paul McCar

    Created: 02/03/10
This CD is a classic. I was in high school when this came out and I originally owned the LP (album). Every song is worthy of single status but "Band on the Run" "Helen Wheels" and "Jet" are the standouts. Just like a "rock opera" the theme sounds return again in many of the songs. 5 Star!!
