Movie synopsis

In this notorious film version of the popular French comic strip by Jean-Claude Forest, Jane Fonda plays a sexy yet innocent space-age heroine in the year 40,000 A.D. who never gets herself into a situation that requires too much clothing. BARBARELLA opens with the titular heroine stripping down to nothing in zero gravity among strategically placed credits. From there Barbarella embarks on a mission to find a peace-threatening young scientist named Duran Duran (Milo O'Shea) by order of the president of Earth. En route, she's attacked by killer dolls, is strapped into a contraption known as the Excessive Machine, and falls in love with a blind angel. Remaining true to its comic book origins, Barbarella's adventure unfolds in a series of dramatic difficulties and unlikely solutions, making for a galloping pace and never-ending opportunities for Mario Garbuglia's hallucinatory set design to dazzle. With guest appearances by 1960s icons Anita Pallenberg, Marcel Marceau, and David Hemmings, and featuring dialogue by novelist Terry Southern, among others, BARBARELLA is not only a comic sci-fi sex romp but also a sly, tongue-in-cheek portrait of the legendary debauchery of that era.

Very Campy, special effects aren't up to todays

Created: 02/07/08
I saw it when it first came out, but didn't remember much except the burned out torture machine. After watching it I realized it is set in a supposed to be enlighten future. Seeing Barbarella experience sexual pleasure for the first time was interesting. The blind Angel was a beautiful man, she thanks him in her unique way for saving her life. If you like fantasy and Sci Fi campy movies this one is very interesting. As others have said, Jane Fonda was a very beautiful and very young woman at the time of this movie. Her acting has become more mature and stronger. I don't judge political views when reviewing this film.

This is a classic CHEESIE sci-fi film. Great costumes on a very young and fit Jane Fonda, a fun evil Duran Duran (who the 80's english band got their name from.), a sexy blind male angel are all fun highlights in this movie. And my all time fav is the EVIL DOLLS. A must for any fan of the old school sci-fi kitch.

Barbarella DVD

This is like the Queen of the campy farout 60's movie era. And oh my, Jane Fonda in little to no clothing? Good Heavenes arent you shocked! (Not)

Space girl gets lost, space girl finds weirdo friends and an angel, space girl gets captured, space girl gets freed, space girl kinds saves the day. I shouldnt say this but, If your from the 60's era and have left over LSD rotting away, take it before watching. Its a whole new experience.

Its campy, its got funny moments, its weird, its psychedelic, its full on fantasy space, its a bit cheesy and all in all, just fun.

60's & 70's Futuristic Delution

Created: 11/10/09
Jane Fonda portrays a nieve space traveler on a rescue mission to save Duran Duran in this 60's psychodelic delution. In her so called attempt to rescue a fallen earth man she travels through a maze of oddities and strange outcasts who tend more to the swinging 70's as Barbarella can't seem to keep her clothes on long enough to solve anything, yet sleeps her way through just to discover that Duran Duran has turned Evil and is plotting to take over this strange new world.

Barbarella, Queen of the Galaxy

Created: 22/10/06
This is a great science fiction movie from the late '60s which stars no other than the famous Jane Fonda as Barbarella. There is also some great music from Duran Duran. Back in the day it was an x-rated movie. It is just over two hours long and you will enjoy every minute of it.
