First of all, love the star: Leonardo De Caprio! He acted his role out so realistically I couldn't help but be so into the movie. Being a recovering addict myself, I relived the horror of what resulted from any addiction. Because this movie is based on true life events, it gives hope to those who are in the grip of the "disease" and lets them know there is a way out. For parents who feel their teenager(s) are possibily falling into that area of their life, this is a must see for the entire family (with precautions on the younger ages, of course).. I love this movie, and have shared it in a Chemical Dependency class, for recovering adedicts. Great applauds, and 5 star rating!! May God continue to bless the man himself (Jim Carroll) for sharing his lifes story with the world....Jim, may you continue to endure and prosper in all your endeavors..

This movie is heart-wrenching story of a teenage boy and his friends in New York. It is based on Jim Carroll's life, and is a painfully accurate account of drug addiction. Leonardo DeCaprio stars , and is fantastically convincing as a young man possessed by heroin.

If you have never seen this movie then you are really missing out. This is one of the best movies that I have ever seen. When you watch the story you become involved in the life of Jim and what his life was like during that time when drugs almost overcame him. Based on a true story this movie will give you a griiping look into the lives of addicts and how hard it is to overcome.

This movie is really good. It shows the street life to drugs. In movies it shows drugs but this one is so realistic. I mean it doesnt hurt that leonardo dicaprio is beautiful. Such good acting it is so convincing it seems that he has been through a drug addiction just like jim carrol. Love this movie I own it and would tell everyone else to also.

This has all the ingredients of an awesome movie in my book!! Beautifully Casted, Well Written, Expertly laid out and based on true events!! This kept me glued to the screen from start to finish! We watch a Group of boys fall hard from a promising future down into the depths of evil & drugs where only the lucky get a chance to fight there way out and back on track. This has real lessons to teach those of us on the same track or possibly for those tempted to experience what initially appears fun. I recommend every parent to watch this with their teens! It is fulls of lessons without coming across as being a life lesson movie!!
