    Movie synopsis

Four of the best bass players around gathered in NYC on Bass Day '98 to show off their skills for their colleagues and fans. First up, Michael Manring plays a solo set with four different instruments, all in different tunings, including one piece in which he plays all four basses at once. Mr. Gonzalez lays down some Afro-Cuban music with the help of Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, Bobby Rodriguez. Next, Mr. Prestia, accompanied by three Tower of Power members, takes the stage and lays down some TOP classics such as "Oakland Stroke," "Squib Cakes," and "What is Hip?" as well as some his own stuff. Finally, Mr. Wooten, accompanied by the great Mr. Burbridge on his finale, proves why he was Bass Player of the Year for 1997 and 1998.

Bass Day the other drum kit.

    Created: 11/11/08
You do not have to a know or be a musician to enjoy this DVD. The bass guitar has also been known as the other drum kit to musicians as it plays a big part in holding the beat of a song together. This live performance filmed in New York is comprised of some of the most influential bass players. Included is Bobby Rodriguez a Latin bassist known for his unique style and large influence in Latin music.
The DVD begins with Micheal Manring a maestro of the bass. He turns the solo instrument into a complete musical piece, amazing and very unique. At one point he plays four basses at one time with the assistance of two audience members. Altogether you will enjoy four bass musicians playing serious funk to beautiful ballads and everything in between. Yes there are other musicians which accompany the bass players, it is not just solo acts. The audio/video is very good and only recorded in 2 way stereo, the way music is meant to be heard. So kick back and crank it up! you will be entertained.
