Bass Pro Shops: The Strike (Bundle with Fishing Rod) (Wii, 2009)

I fish tournaments during the summer but need a "fix" during the winter. This game is great (except for the controller) . they need to sell a decent fishing reel as the numchuck does not really work as a reel. The rest is very realistic and now my 5 year old grandson fishes with me (he reels them in once I catch them.). It took quite a while to get the casting motion down and it could be very difficult for small hands or folks not that used to casting accurately. I would give it a 5 if not for the reel which I would like to send back but don't want to stop playing.

This game came with a fishing rod attachment. this concept is very appealing, the ability to play the game while using a realistic fishing rod. Unfortunately the fishing rod attachment doesnt work the way it should. You cannot drive the boat while using it which is a big part of the game. You actually have to take the nunchuck out of the reel to drive and put it back in to fish. The game itself is not thought out very well. While it has cool features that would make the game awesome, the gameplay itself is very poor. It is very difficult to cast and even hook a fish!! I am very disappointed in this game. I really wish I could take it back. I do not feel it right to return something to an evay seller just because I do not like it. So in all, I would definately NOT recommend this game. The attachment may work for other fishing games which I will find out soon. I plan to buy the EA Sports version of a fishing game.

My wife got me this for christmas against my idea. When I first opened it and tried it; it just didn't seem exiting at all. I not only did not catch any fish, I didn't see any either. I couldn't control the boat either. I put it away and my wife wondered why I wasn't using it. So, I tried again; however, I did a little research on the internet. I set the controller to "B" in options and changed the bait I was using and boy was there a huge difference. I have unlocked all of the lakes; fished and won the Invitational with two different miis. I have caught two of the legendary fish (still trying to locate more). The boat racing challenges are quite fun and a great way to earn money to buy more tackle. I now fish in my living room quite often on cold winter evenings. I have tried a few other fishing games and in my way of thinking this one is the best. I am looking at the new "The Strike-Tournement Edition"

Its hard to use and the instructions are not very helpful. The controls are nearly impossible to work. I got this for my 6yr old niece and she was so excited at first, but it quickly turned to frustration as we couldnt get the boat to drive, couldnt cast, etc. I, after over an hour of fiddling around, had to take the wii nunchuk out of the fishing "reel" in order to move the boat and then had to pause and put it back together in order to fish. Not real easy or fun. The graphics are nice and I will continue to try, because it seems like it would be great fun if it ever worked correctly.

I enjoy this game but it was hard at first to figure out how to catch fish. I read about many people complaining about the fishing rod attachment and how it is no good. I thought the same until I went into options and noticed that there is a controller "B" configuration. This configuration works great with the rod attatchment and allows you to use it as it was meant to be used. It also lets you actually drive the boat and real in lures without having to remove the controllers.

Overall the game is okay and I enjoy it more now that I understand what to do. The game does not really teach you how to play that well and it really is a learn as you go and guessing game.

I like it but I have played better fishing games.
