Album Notes
This is 1 of 2 complete soundtracks issued for the film "Batman." The other is a full-length instrumental score by Danny Elfman (Warner Bros. 25977). Includes 5 songs from the film and 4 that are not in the film.In the late '80s, back when he was the Artist almost known as "has-been," his royal purpleness was in a quandary. It seemed that no matter what kind of delicious, sexy f-u-n-k the hardest working man in Minneapolis popped out, no one was buying. That was all to change when Warner Bros. decided that Tim Burton's BATMAN film was just a wee bit too dark, and needed to be funkified. Naturally Prince got the call. And it's a good thing that he did! While few of his compositions actually were "featured" in the movie itself, the ones that did added valuable levity to the sometimes-grim proceedings. Thanks to Prince, that old party animal the Joker could deface paintings with a little pizzazz, to the grooving "Partyman." And even if that (allegedly) is not the voice of Kim Basinger heating up "Scandalous," Sheena Easton definitely creates some super-heroic friction in "The Arms of Orion," her duet with Mr.-soon-to-be-a-squiggly-symbol. Even "Batdance" gets catchier when removed from its radio and MTV ubiquity. BATMAN's probably not the favorite of Prince "purists" but it gives up the funk better than most.

Batman: Prince vs Elfman

Created: 24/05/09
If you consider Tim Burton's Batman a great movie, you should have both soundtracks. I am more into the score rather than the songs used in the film. So it may sound a little bias.

I'm not a Prince fan, nor did I listen to anything else he's done, but there was enough in the movie for me to say it's very good. After having watched the movie at least 10 times, (I had the VHS and it was on tv several times), the tracks still make me smile. Especially since they added some of the dialog from the movie, though some tracks had the dialog kept repeating was annoying.

My favorite tracks are:
4. Partyman
6. Trust

I'm not a music critic, so I won't judge the music, which makes this review kinda lame. But if you're a Prince fan or a fan of this movie, you'll enjoy it. My 2 favorite tracks listed above were just fun scenes in the movie. Also having only 9 tracks on an album is pathetic. If you can get this CD cheap, great; but if you have to pay more than $10US, you’re getting ripped off, unless you’re a die-hard fan who’s a “completist” when it comes to Prince or Batman. Just my opinion.

In case you're wondering, I gave a 3.5/5 rating, compared to the score soundtrack 4.5/5.

Batman Funk...

Created: 22/07/09
This a rare album, that for some odd reason, has been swept under the rug for the past 20 years. All in all, this is one of the funkiest albums Prince released. If you are in the mood for Funk, and simply want a pice of work that makes you want to dance on the dining room table, then check this out.

from the opening "Future", to the insane in the membrane "Electric Chair", this album strikes a chord with the best of them. In the gothic threshold of Batman lies a vibrant Prince simply egging us into his world of funk, and I'm there witing with open arms. When "Lemon Crush" smashes home late in the album, we are all ready for the ultimate beatdown of "Batdance". This dance, groove funk, smashmouth, jive ensemble will reassure you that Prince can deliver, and does he ever on these licks.

"Gentlemen, let's broaden our minds. Lawrence?"

 | Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.
Created: 11/09/11
When the Joker told Lawrence to crank up 'Partyman' on his huge 80's boombox while the Clown Prince of Crime defaced priceless works of art in a Gotham City mueseum, controversy was born. Many Batman fans disliked the Joker's taste in music.

This was then taken up to eleven in the climactic parade sequence wherein the Joker holds his own celebration of his gigantic, insane ego, to the tune of 'Trust.' While many fans may disagree, I feel that these Prince songs fit perfectly well in the world of Batman. Like the Joker himself, they clash with the dark, dreary and serious atmosphere of Gotham City and this is likely why he (and the filmmakers) chose them.

Of the songs featured on this soundtrack, only three were actually used in the film. The aforementioned 'Partyman' in the museum and 'Trust' at the parade, and also 'Scandalous' which plays over the movie's end credits. The others weren't in the movie but somehow fit the theme of Joker mania Prince seemed to be going for. 'Elecric Chair' is pretty fun and 'The Arms of Orion,' wherein Prince is joined by Sheena Easton, is a very moving love song. And finally we have Prince's infamous 'Batdance,' a song so insane even the Joker might raise an eyebrow at it.

All in all, Prince's soundtrack for 'Batman' has been unfairly maligned over the years, but I've always loved it. A class-act release.

If you ever have a batman party and you feel like gettin down play this album.
