Batman & Robin (DVD, 2005, 2-Disc Set, Special Edition)

Joel Schumacher, Arnold Schwarzenegger, George Clooney|Theatrical release: 1997 | Rating: PG-13 (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

The Caped Crusader returns to battle the abominable Mr. Freeze and green-thumbed Poison Ivy. To save his ailing wife, Dr. Victor Fries turns to a life of crime after a hideous accident makes him unable to tolerate even moderate temperatures, while Dr. Pamela Isley falls victim to mutated plant DNA when things go awry in a jungle laboratory funded by Wayne Industries. Of course, though their interests are diametrically opposed (Freeze wants another Ice Age; Ivy wants to make the world safe for plants), the two villains team up to defeat Gotham's dynamic duo of Batman and Robin, who are joined by butler Alfred's motorcycle-obsessed niece as Batgirl. And when Alfred is diagnosed as having the same terminal disease as Freeze's wife, the trio find themselves not only fighting an altruistic battle, but a personal one as well. A frenetic, colorful, and often overwhelming sequel to "Batman," "Batman Returns," and "Batman Forever."

Decent movie, but nothing to write home about

Batman and Robin - A decent movie, but nothing too special

I'll be honest, I was extremely dissapointed with this Batman film. The choice of villains keeps getting worse. I don't feel that Mr. Freeze and Poisin Ivy are good Batman Movie Villains.

The cast does a great job and the addition of Batgirl is a great one, but the film follows the Batman Forever style too much. Still too cartoony and flashy for my tastes.

Final Verdict:

3/5

Rent or Buy?: This one really depends on your tastes, I don't own, and never really think about it. Rent it first to refresh your memory before buying it.

This Review Doesn't Exist

Created: 03/04/09
This review doesn't exist because to me, and virtually anyone who loves comic books and comic book movies, this MOVIE should not exist. This film takes the campy Batman approach so far it makes a mockery of the Dark Knight. It is utterly stupid every step of the way - from the casting (Alicia Silverstone), the story (unfreezing an entire city with a telescope), to the acting (God-damn you George Clooney!), this film is a waste of time.

But, alas, I am a fan of Batman. And being a true fan means sticking with the hero through the good times and bad. I own every Batman movie and could not, in good conscience, have a hole in my collection - no matter how dark and sour and downright wrong that hole would be once filled. This movie is the black mark in my DVD collection. The one thing in my possession that I would hide from Jesus were he to return.

Watching this film is not advisable. But, for the true fan, owning it is, unfortunately, a necessary evil.

Trashier than even Daredevil and Hulk

Created: 25/09/07
This movie was a disgrace to both filmmaking and Batman. Why? To start off, the movie was saturated with corny lines, such as "Take two of these, and call me in the morning" or "Never leave the cave without it" (while flashing a batman credit card). This movie was, to me, just a way to market toys and had no pretense of actually being a good film. As I mentioned in the title, I disliked Daredevil and Hulk. However, I would give both of them two stars just to save the one star rating for Ultraviolet and this trash. Joel Shumacher should have stopped with Batman Forever, but he didn't and now I have to shudder everytime I walk past this movie in the stores.

Super Excellent

It's one of the best classic Batman movies. It is a must have if you are into Batman. Also this is the only movie with Robin in it - and he is great! This CD was also new and reasonably priced.

Batman & Robin

Always liked the movie & wanted it for my ever-growing DVD collection. I like getting DVD's since most of them come with extras & all kinds of tasty tidbits you never knew about the movies. I'm a big George Clooney fan too boot. When there's nothing to watch on TV or there's sports on almost every channel it's nice to have a bunch of good titles to put in the player & we can have our own popcorn & movie night.
