A True Classic Shunned!

I love the movie! I remember it as a kid and finally got a chance to buy it on eBay. It's a cute family flick that is entertaining and heartwarming for all ages. Legends Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy (real-life husband and wife)are among the impoverished residents of a slum tenement threatened with demolition by evil land developers. Only a miracle can save Cronyn, Tandy, and their friends -- and that miracle manifests itself in the form of a "family" of extraterrestrial flying saucers, who need the electricity provided by the tenement to survive. The grateful humanized spaceships repay their earthbound hosts by doing battle with the villains' henchmen. When the building is engulfed in flames, all seems lost, but the aliens have a few more tricks up their metallic sleeves.

I remembered this as a cute family movie from the mid eighties.
As it wasn't available as a rental at the movie store I was glad to get it off eBay for a reasonable cost and on DVD.
Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy (a real life husband and wife team) are an awesome pair in this movie. My 13 and 15-year olds were glued to the set though the whole show and said that.." for an older movie the little flying saucer aliens were well blended in and did not look too fake next to live actors"
The story line is nice, just enough comedy and drama mix. I recommend this little gem to anyone!

Hume Cronyn and Jessica Tandy star in this entertaining and heartwarming story of an elderly couple, a former boxer, an artist, and a pregnant woman as besieged individuals who don’t’ want to leave their homes in a rundown city tenement. The building is going to be torn down for a high-rise complex. Then two little spaceships from another planet arrive looking for a power source. The tenants help them out and, in return, the extraterrestrial critters work wonders for them.

Batteries Not Included

As a family we were waxing nostalgic and discussing some of our favorite movies as the kids were growing up. I had found a few in the Wal*Mart bargain DVD bin and have been enjoying them. However, our conversation went in the direction of other favorites we had never seen available on DVD. On a whim I did an internet search and found 'Batteries Not Included'. My new son-in-law remembered this movie and said it had been one of his favorites. I ended up ordering two copies. One for my DVD library and one for his birthday.
This is a great 'feel good' movie. It centers around the residents of an old apartment building in the center of an inner city blight area that is being razed to put up a fancy new skyscraper. The residents don't want to leave their homes. Bad guys try to force them out but an extraterrestrial/robotic intervention saves the day. I don't want to say anymore about the story line because it will spoil anyones first time experience with this wonderful, classic film.
Highly recommended for all ages. A Family Library Keeper!!!
