1991 was a very strong year at the Oscars, with
front-runner THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS battling it out
with the film with the most nominations, Warren
Beatty's BUGSY. There are those who say that fans of
what is perhaps the finest Disney musical ever made
for film, BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, should be grateful it
was even nominated for Best Picture. I thought it
should have gone all the way. The opening "Belle"
sequence alone is worth the price of DVD alone. And
lucky you if you have a huge theatre-style video
system at home. You don't get the full impact of the
fine artistic detail of Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
on small screen. And the Broadway show is a yawner –
I slept through much of it when it appeared in
Chicago. Not only is this film visually beautiful, it
is a fine example of musical theatre writing,
especially the lyrics. Notice the motif of 1-2-3-4-5
on every lyric in the Oscar-winning title song,
"Beauty and the Beast." AND you get to hear Angela
Lansbury sing it! What's not to like?

One of Disney's most treasured films ever! Great Family Movie! The original "Beauty and the Beast" has been a favorite in our house for the last decade! I would have to say that this is one of Disney's Best Full Length Animated Movies!

Beauty and the Beast is a story that will never grow old, even when you do. The creative and colorful characters are engaging and loveable. The story is solid and powerful. The songs and animation will stick with you as long as you live. This Disney classic belongs in any and all DVD collections.

The film is as good as any Disney animated feature ever made. It reflects energy and creativity. This is robust family entertainment. This movie tells a story, with terrific music, providing a new definition of fun.
