Album Notes
A 55-track collection spanning Beck's career, includes 3 previously unreleased tracks, 64-page booklet with descriptive notes and photos (both B&W and color). Packaged in a box resembling a guitar case.Personnel: Jeff Beck (vocals, guitar); John Lucas (vocals, guitar); Keith Relf (vocals, harmonica); Paul Lucas, Paul Samwell-Smith, Tim Bogert, Andrew Roachford, Karen Lawrence (vocals, bass); Carmen Appice (vocals, drums); Rod Stewart, Bob Tench, Jimmy Hall (vocals); Chris Dreja (guitar, bass); Nicky Hopkins, Narada Michael Walden (piano); Jan Hammer (keyboards, synthesizer); Tony Hymas, Duane Hitchings, Richard Scher (keyboards); Curly Smith (synthesizer); Ron Prentice, John Paul Jones, Ron Wood, Clive Chapman, Tim Bogert, Phil Chen, Wilbur Bascomb, Mo Foster (bass); Richard Bailey, Terry Bozzio (drums, percussion); Ray Cook, Jim McCarty, Clem Catini, Mick Waller, Tony Newman, Aynsley Dunbar, Cozy Powell, Tony Smith (drums).Few other guitarists are as deserving of the box-set treatment as Beck. 1991's BECKOLOGY is a three-disc set, exhaustively compiled to represent every era of Beck's long and winding career. The set also includes a 60-page booklet with a bio, classic pix, and a Beck band-member family tree.Starting with one of Beck's very first bands, the Tridents, Disc One mainly focuses on his work with blues-rock groundbreakers the Yardbirds ("Train Kept-A-Rollin," "Happenings Ten Years Ago") and Beck's early solo work ("Hi Ho Silver Lining"). Disc Two contains tracks with a then-unknown singer named Rod Stewart ("Shapes of Things," "Jailhouse Rock") and selections from the short-lived Beck, Bogert, Appice trio ("Black Cat Moan"). The final disc focuses on Beck's mid-'70s instrumental era ("Goodbye Pork Pie Hat," "Freeway Jam") and on such mercurial '80s work as Beck/Stewart's hit cover of "People Get Ready." BECKOLOGY is a fitting retrospective of this guitar legend.

Play Guitar!

Jeff Beck shows everything he's accomplished in this set. His body of work is impressive in it's scope and volume. Be it jazz, rock or blues, Jeff Beck delivers. Although I feel there are tracks that are more technicallly outstanding than purely soulful, I'd recommend this collection to anyone serious about guitar. Too many have overlooked this giant in rock history. Beck's "'Cause we've ended as lovers" is my favorite version of Stevie Wonder's great song.
