Movie synopsis

Adam Sandler's Happy Madison Productions--in cahoots with director Dennis Dugan (HAPPY GILMORE), stars Rob Schneider (DEUCE BIGELOW: MALE GIGOLO), Jon Heder (NAPOLEON DYNAMITE), and David Spade (TOMMY BOY)--seeks to level the eternal struggle between jocks and nerds in the raucous comedy THE BENCHWARMERS. Schneider plays Gus, a landscaper, who, along with his newspaper deliveryman pal Clarke (Heder), comes upon a hapless group of kids being picked on by a bully baseball squad on the sandlot. When one member of the squad delivers a non-culinary "beef stew" to one of weaklings, the two adults intervene. As he waxes nostalgic on the baseball diamond, Gus challenges the tough Little Leaguers to a scrimmage, and Clarke and his other uber-nerdy and decidedly nonathletic friend, video store clerk Richie (Spade), are recruited--and the eponymous Benchwarmers are formed. Soon, news of the three sissy men versus the nine jocks-in-training spreads and comes to the attention of billionaire geek, Mel (Jon Lovitz). With Mel's help, a state-wide tournament is created allowing any youth baseball team the chance to knock off the Benchwarmers. As the frenzy grows, all jocks and wimps, young and old, come out to support their side with the final verdict in this never-ending war for supremacy. While the movie features cameos from real-life sports personalities Reggie Jackson, Sean Salisbury, and Bill Romanowski, its highlights are the antics and comedic chemistry of its leads. If flatulence, juvenile sex jokes, feces, agoraphobia, robotic butlers, and baseball are your recipe for riotous belly-laughs, than BENCHWARMERS is nothing short of a grand slam., IN THEATERS APRIL 7, 2006Three nerdy anti-jocks (David Spade, NAPOLEAN DYNAMITE'S Jon Heder, and Rob Schneider) decide to redeem themselves by forming a baseball team, and then going head-to-head with elementary-school players who remind them of themselves at that age.

The Benchwarmers

Created: 24/08/10
One of the most funniest and twisted movies I've ever seen. The casters knew what they were doing when they put together Rob Schnieder, John Hedder and David Spade! Rob plays an ex bully names Gus who befriends nerds as a penance for bullying a kid so bad that he was placed in a mental institution. The 2 nerds he befriends are John Hedder and David Spade. One day he decides to play baseball with his non athletic friends (Gus is an ex baseball player) when little leaguers refuse to give up their field (and were bullying a chubby kid). So they decide to play for the field and Gus' team wins and the chubby kid makes friends with them then tells his billionaire father (a nerd that grew up to invent tons of crap) John Lovitz and he creates the team The Benchwarmers; dedicated to the kids that never get to play - unbeknown to the rest of the group that Gus is an ex bully; they think that he was bullied as a kid. If you want to know how it turns out watch or buy the movie!

EXCELLENT COMEDY ABOUT 3 OLDER GUYS THAT HELP THE NERDY KIDS GET SOME RESPECT BUY PLAYING BASEBALL. FOR ME THIS A MOVIE THAT I HAVE WATCHED MORE THAN ONE TIME. IT IS A "FEEL GOOD" MOVIE. IT PUTS ME IN A GOOD MOOD. THE MOVIE SETTING IS IN CALIFORNIA SO THAT MEANS PLENTY OF SUNSHINE AND LOTS OF BASEBALL. THIS MOVIE IS NOT INTENDED FOR YOUNG CHILDREN. ALTHOUGH THERE IS NO HARSH LANGUAGE THIS MOVIE IS GEARED MORE FOR ADULTS. IF YOU LIKE DAVID SPADE, ROB SCHNEIDER, JON LOVITZ AND JOHN HEDER AND OF COURSE SOME GREAT EX NFL STARS YOU WILL LIKE THIS MOVIE.

Disgusting yet funny

My teens enjoyed this movie. However even they are telling me that this movie is not suitable for young children due to the language and crude humor.
Despite the trailers for the movie there was only one or two parts that were really even worth mentioning.
The part with the potato (seen in the previews) and the part where they are reading baseball stats.
You'd think with a cast of David Spade, Jon Lovitz, Jon Heder(Napoleon Dynamite), and Rob Schneider that movie would have been better.

A Hilarious, Heartwarming Enjoyable Comedy

Created: 14/08/10
(*** out of ****) I wasn't certain I'd enjoy The Benchwarmers but after seeing it, it's become one of my favorite comedies of all time. Certainly there is some toilet humor but it's really tame. The heart of the story is about forgivness, good sportsmanship and giving the underdog a chance to shine. There's a happy ending that brings tears to my eyes. Rob Schnieder shines in his role, as does Jon Heder and David Spade. These 3 are hysterically funny, as usual. Jon Lovitz makes a cameo well worth seeing, especially in one particular scene where he is driving KITT from Night Rider (if I tell more I'll spoil it). All in all, a magnificent comedy with a huge heart and a fantastic moral to be told. It proves that even if one isn't athletic, they can enjoy playing sports.

Get off the bench and get into the game.

I really think that's the only issue with this film. If you've been a fan of Adam Sandler's work (this is a Happy Madison production), you'll like this movie. Not only was it produced by Sandler, but it was co-written by one of his longtime buddies Allen Covert. If you go into this movie not knowing what to expect, that's your own fault. I know this movie won't be received well by critics, but when has ANYTHING that Sandler's done ever been? Ontop of that it features Jon Heder aka Napoleon Dynamite. To me, this was a huge added bonus. I love Sandler movies, and I loved Napoleon Dynamite. Many people feel Heder's a terrible actor, but I think his delivery is hysterical. I found myself laughing throughout this film, and thought it supplied Heder with more great one-liners that will be quoted for the next year. After saying that, some of you might turn your nose up at me and tell me that I wouldn't know what a good movie is, but I enjoy and cherish Casablanca, The Godfather: Part II, and Good Will Hunting as much as anybody, but forgive me if I like to enjoy a little mindless laughter at times. If you didn't like Billy Madison, The Hot Chick, or Napoleon Dynamite, you'll hate this movie, no doubt. But then why would you even go see it in the first place?
