benny and joon
Created: 20/02/10
Small-town mechanic Benny is perhaps a tad overprotective of his mentally ill artist sister, Juniper "Joon" Pearl (Mary Stuart Masterson of FRIED GREEN TOMATOES), but that's only because he's completely devoted to her well-being. When Benny loses a poker game and is forced to take in a friend's eccentric houseguest--a droll, dyslexic oddball (Johnny Depp) who goes by the name of Sam and models himself after silent-film star Buster Keaton--Joon finds herself falling into a romance unbeknownst to her brother. Benny does eventually find out, though, and both siblings must come to terms with their changing relationship. BENNY & JOON, a must-see for Depp fans, is chockful of whimsy and affection. This charming romantic comedy co-stars Julianne Moore and William H. Macy in early film roles.
this is a great movie for any depp fan. i have seen it a few times and it is a movie i had to own.

Benny & Joon

This is definitely one of my favorite movies! I was only about three years old when it actually came out, so I watched it quite a bit after it's time and still enjoyed it whole-heartedly.
I think a lot of its appeal stems from the combination of characters including a mentally ill Joon, her devoted yet exhausted brother Benny, and their new housemate with a Buster Keaton affinity named Sam. This all comes together to form a heart-warming story essentially about discovering love and the relationships that can be established (or re-established).
I stumbled upon this film because I happened to be up for a "Johnny Depp from the 90s" sort of film and I had also just gotten done watching Fried Green Tomatoes in which Mary Stuart Masterson (Joon) played the timeless heroine Idgie Threadgoode. I'm very pleased to say that both actors did an incredibly convincing job that went beyond my expectations.

Feel good Movie

Johnny Depp does a great Buster Keaton/Charlie Chaplin immitation as the excentric movie buff turned housekeeper, won in a poker game by mentally ill Juniper Pearl. Worth the watch to see Depp bring Chaplin & Keaton's antics back to the screen. Romantic but not overly so. Fun flick all around.

Benny & June - cut and hilarious
Created: 06/03/08
This is an excellent little movie. A young Johnny Depp plays the misfit and unwanted cousin of Benny's friend, and in a hand of poker becomes the houseguest of June, Benny's sister: who is mentally ill and who has lived with Benny since of lichildhood.
From there it's oddness...mixed with the everyday things life, and showing that it's not only "normal" people need love.
