Berserk TV Series Season One (DVD, 2009, 6-Disc Set, Remastered Edition)

I've seen nearly a hundred anime series.... and nothing compares with Berserk. It is by far my favorite, in a league of its own. Thrilling combat, gripping plot, deep and developed characters, and a story that can be described as nothing short of a masterpiece. The author, Kentaro Miura, originally started the manga (comic), which it is based on, in the late 1980's and it is still running today as one of the best selling Japanese comics of all time. Mature and intense content, not for people who cannot handle violent or dark themes. I bought the remastered version for an amazing price of only $20. I bought two copies. (Having already owned the old version of the series... but the box was getting dilapidated.) The artwork on the discs is much better than the older version, and they are actually numbered this time, also the front cover artwork is well done. I highly recommend this anime, and when you finish the last episode, and are left speechless, craving more, read the manga for continuation of Berserk. You will love it, guaranteed. (A new rendition of the manga into anime format has officially been announced to be in the works as of September 27th 2010)

It's difficult to discuss an Anime like Berserk without giving away some aspects of the plot. I will start off by saying that this is one of the most well written shows I've seen in some time. The battle scenes are well choreographed and animated, and apply a realistic level of violence and gore. While the animation may be considered dated by today's standards, this does not detract from the impact of the show. One aspect of the show that will leave viewers with polarizing reactions is the ending. It would be hard to describe the ending without spoiling the show, but you've been warned. All in all, I would highly recommend this show, as it will leave a lasting impression on you long after its over. If you're an anime fan, the only reason to pass up a show like this would be a weak stomach.

No better word describes the main character of this anime when he gets on the battlefield, and it's every reason to buy these DVDs to see why. Other than the anime itself and it's epic storyline; the DVDs also come with great extras like artwork, storyboards, interviews, production sketches, and even bloopers that are hilarious. Anyone interested in 14th century weaponry & armor, violence, demons, nobility, armies, wars, imaginative plots, great characters, and detailed artwork should definitely consider purchasing this DVD set.

One of the absolute favorite animes of all time. On the surface it looks like a simple slasher but in reality it has some of the best character development I have ever seen. I have watched it three times in its entirety already and plan to show it to my friends.

Overall great series and one of the few that made me want to read the manga it is based on.

I like how compact the case for the 6 discs are. They are official discs. I really like the series and wanted to find it for the right price. I saw an older edition used for 38 and I thought that was just to much. So I checked ebay and found a better version
