    Album Notes
Billboard Top Rock & Roll Hits: 1968 features some of the year's definitive singles, including Archie Bell & the Drells' "Tighten Up," Otis Redding's "(Sittin' on) The Dock of the Bay" and the Box Tops' "Cry Like a Baby." The collection offers plenty of bubblegum pop, as well, including two of the style's definitive songs, John Fred & His Playboy Band's "Judy in Disguise" and Ohio Express' "Yummy, Yummy, Yummy." Along with the Rascals' "People Got to Be Free" and Tommy James' "Mony Mony," the album also features one of 1968's biggest instrumentals, Cliff Nobles & Company's brassy, good-natured "Horse." Although the collection is somewhat slight at ten songs, each one is well-known and an original recording, both of which make the album fairly worthwhile despite its short length. ~ Heather Phares

60s rock music has its own distinctive style!

    Created: 25/12/09
By the year 1968, rock music delivered quite a 1-2 puch to American music scene. The songs featured in this volume of "Billboard Top Rock & Roll Hits" are evidence of this. Archie Bell and the Drells scored a major hit with the song "Tighten Up"; John Fred & His Playboy Band topped the charts with "Judy In Disguise (With Glasses)", a take-off on the title of the Beatles' song "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds"; Otis Redding's final song was "(Sittin' On) The Dock Of The Bay", recorded 3 days before he perished in a plane crash; the Rascals, previously the Young Rascals, had another hit with "People Got To Be Free"; Aretha Franklin shows why she is the Queen of Soul with "Chain Of Fools"; another favorite song of the year was "Green Tambourine" by the Lemon Pipers; the Box Tops continued with the hit "Cry Like A Baby"; a rock classic from 1968 is "Mony Mony" by Tommy James and the Shondells; the Bubblegum craze hit an all-time high with "Yummy Yummy Yummy" by the Ohio Express; Cliff Nobles & Company flooded the airwaves with horn-driven "The Horse". 1968 saw a major turning point in the music world, and it was ready to take another dramatic turn

    Harry James - Swing Town

     | Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.
    Created: 27/12/11
The product description is for a different CD than the item pictured, which was Harry James "Swing Town". I bought this Harry James CD specifically for one impossible-to-find song, and I am pleased beyond compare for having this song alone, not to mention how great the rest of the disc is. I have been searching for the particular record in question on a 78 rpm for years, to no avail. I almost jumped through the screen when I found it on this CD! I had just looked through 34 pages of Harry James records looking for this record (again!), when I found two of this same CD -- the only two of their kind, and the only album with that song on it at all. I couldn't be happier, and that includes being pleased with a ton of other great classics included on it. A definite plus for any big band/swing collector!

    Excellent Classic Soul Hits Collection...

    Created: 07/01/11
I really, really enjoyed this Classic Soul hits collection from 1971...all the songs were the original recordings - no re-records at all! :^D
Not all of the songs included on this CD were familiar to me, but still found them enjoyable.
If you're a big fan of Classic Soul Music from the early 70's, then you won't be disappointed if you buy this CD.

This CD brings back many old memories. I bought this mainly for "The Stranger on the Shore", but. The whole cd has been wonderful to renew old memories. A great value & nice mix of songs.

    great oldies

I've purchased several of thes compilations the last few weeks on ebay. There are always some listed at reseonable prices. This cd and the others offer some really good and nostalgic tunes at a minimal cost. Forget about the overpriced time-life collections. These are just as good and more affordable.
