Black Adder - The Complete Collector's Set (DVD, 2001, 5-Disc Set)

A genre was established by this talented comedian Rowan Atkinson when he set his series in differant era's. He first appears in the Middle ages as the evil yet incompetant Prince Edmund whose bumbling friends Duke Percy and dogsbody peasant Baldrick slither in and out of trouble. The Tudor period brings Edmund into slightley more affluence as a favorite of Queen Elizabeth 1st. Elizabeth is played by Miranda Richardson as a dolally Monarch with a nurse called Bernard. Stephen Fry portrays her minister as a bowing and scraping idiot. Again Edmund with Percy and Baldrick stay just ahead of ruin with more whitty dialogue and side splitting situations. The third series finds Blackadder as the Prince Regent's (Prinny) butler, Hugh Laurie portrays the Prince as an empty headed womaniser and Baldrick is still a dogsbody in the kitchen. Will Edmund succeed in rising to power? you will have to watch this hilarious series. The last series "Blackadder go's Fourth"is a play on words and is set in the trench's of World War 1. The same cast of characters are all there with Edmund portraying Captain Blackadder who conives to get out of the War. Rowan Atkinson brings together all the personalities of his Blackadder ancestors with cruel and sarcastic whit yet showing us the frightened vunerable man beneath. Blackadder "Back and Forth' brings Edmund where he wants to be, a wealthy man living in a large Tudor mansion. All the series cast are having dinner at Edmund's home, when he reveals he has built a time machine from Leonardo Davinci's drawings. Everyone ask's for something from the past for Edmund to bring back, but Edmund and Baldrick soon discover that this contraption really works. One of their adventures reveals what really killed the Dinosaurs, of course all the whit and hilarity is still there. This box set is a must for Blackadder fans and others who have yet to discover this hillarious comedy character "The Blackadder" you will find yourself trying to memorize the gems of whit that will have you laughing till you pee.

I bought these because I loved the original series and had bought them years ago on VHS and when I heard that there was a new set out on DVD that had an extra show I wanted to get it. The extra show wasn't quite like the original series but was still funny and enjoyable. It was great seeing some of the old people playing different characters. If you have never seen the Black Adder series and enjoy British humor, you'll probably love this set. And if you're like me and just wanted to replace an outdated VHS set, now is a good time since you get the extra show to make it more worth your while.

If you are a Rowan fan and you enjoy when he plays Mr. Bean then you will love the Black Adder series. I laughed the entire time I was watching. A must have for anyone who loves comedies

I have watched these shows on tv for years and laughed myself silly everytime, getting these on DVD and being able to enjoy them when ever I like is just great I played them on my 57th birthday party and had everyone cracking up!! LOVE LOVE BLACK ADDER

Excellent source of ideas and storyline for gamers and future writers. Excellent humor and great fun. i really enjoyed them and think Black Adder Rocks!!!
