Album Notes
Elefant: Diego Garcia (vocals); Mod (guitar, keyboards, background vocals); Jeff James (bass guitar, background vocals); Kevin McAdams (drums, percussion).Elefant's sophomore release is a serious advance on their debut, SUNLIGHT MAKES ME PARANOID. Whereas that album displayed a penchant for 1980s British indie rock and new wave a la the Smiths and the Cure, the BLACK MAGIC SHOW sublimates that influence onto a varied, colorful, style-spanning canvas that encompasses hard rock, dance rhythms, sunshine pop, and blissful guitar noise.Frontman and songwriter Diego Garcia's '80s obsession remains apparent, and the album's tight, addictive grooves and gorgeous, expansive production will earn Elefant comparisons to Bloc Party and the Killers. Yet Garcia's sensibility is distinctive. Dark and brooding, his songs are full of yearning and paranoia, which strain pleasingly against the meticulous songcraft. Blasting the sophomore slump to smithereens, THE BLACK MAGIC SHOW is sure to gain Elefant plenty of attention.

Soon to be a classic!

Created: 06/02/07
To be precise, I had heard Elefant's debut release but was skeptical on purchasing it and somehow just never managed to. I did enjoy their 80's love for indie rock laced with some psychedelic influences and Smiths like melodies but when I got a good listen to this CD, I was hooked. The first and most appealing song is Black Magic Show (opinion here folks), grabbed me and made me want to stay the course for the duration of the rest of the album. Elefant posess a sense of carefree abandon for great hooks, melody and over all satisfying indie sounds that I haven't experienced since the early to mid 80's listening to (again with the reference) the Smiths, the Cure and even House of Love (might just be me) sometimes even throughing some late 60's acid rock type melodies that sounds so familiar but ohh so refreshing. Like the CD a whole lot, hell I love it to tell you the truth. Great CD for car rides, especially after work. Check it out.

Lola Is On The Floor

The Black Magic Show is quickly becoming one of my favorite CDs. Reminding me of everything from The Cure to The Church to Xymox. I also keep finding hints of the unexpected like Franz Ferdinand, Weezer, and The Postal Service. When I saw the video for Lolita on youtube I had to check them out. I was not disappointed. 5 Huge Stars.

I love everything about it because it has the type of sound I can never get bored of.
I think this band is quite impressive because it has some great tunes.
They really know how to make a time of listening to them become worth a while:)
