Well So close and yet So far away. The game is setup a lot like Resistance:Fall of Man. Everything from the story line which is an alien race "sneaks" to earth and starts transforming are military into super aliens. Or the government creates these aliens. Even the controls are laid out like resistance. Unfortunately that's where the similarities end. The graphics are O.K. it uses the Unreal engine however it never fully utilizes the capabilities of the PlayStation 3. The bugs are absolutely UN-excusable. Fro the long load times you might as well get a snack. They even have load times in the middle of the levels a couple of them and those absolutely ruin the momentum. I even had the game freeze up a couple of times to wear I had to complete turn my ps3 off to correct the error. The gun selection is very limited as well. The graphics are very choppy as you move your character the screen cuts out to catch up with your movement. On to the good. The controls are solid you have 3 controller setup selections you can choose from. Although you would like to see mappable buttons however they work. The vehicle controls are setup well much like similar FPS vehicle controls. The vehicles are a little irritating aliens come at you but you have no gun and if you run over them they blowup your vehicle. What possessed them to give you a vehicle without a gun is beyond me. Your path is pretty well laid out. Your squad mates work well to help things along. Some of the creatures are massive. Plenty of ammo is laid before you. If your looking for a FPS to play and you can pick a used copy up for $15 it's probably worth your time. I downloaded a playable demo off of the PlayStation network to try out and that played really well. I would do that be for making a leap in to this game.

Gameplay: 6.5
The shooting mechanic is passable, but aiming is excruciatingly slow. The morale mechanic is pretty forgettable.
Graphics: 7.0
While the game occasionally has its graphical moments and impressive visual moments, 90% of the game is bland art design.
Sound: 6.8
The voice acting is decent, but sometimes confusing. Nothing special here.
Difficulty: Medium
Concept: 6.5
The story and dialogue is occasionally clever, but this is no Bioshock.
Multiplayer: 7.5
There are the basic online modes, and while I wasn’t able to test them, Abduction Mode sounds interesting.
Overall: 6.5
Blacksite: Area 51 is fun to play – sometimes - but when you compare it to other FPS’s on the market like Bioshock, Halo 3, and CoD4, there is no comparison. Playing a game like this makes you really appreciate how far games have come, and what a little extra polish will do to a game.

Its a good game but has a worn out story about an experimental super-soldier program gone wrong. The gameplay is ok but the squad commands are pretty much useless. Over thought it is a good buy and a must hve for your next-gen console.

Better than I thought

My true game love is first person shooters. Tunnels, trenches, house-to-house, jungle, mountains, etc. - Not a fan of fighting the Bosses and over dependant puzzles. run & gun. This game has it, but - for me - bogs down with vehicle dependant missions - not my favorite and: Why aren't all vehicles operated the way the individual characters are? Many games do and I can get through it, total shifts in manual operation takes the fun out of it for me. Not worth the learning curve in most cases.
