Blast From the Past (1989)

Want some good laughs? Do you like nostalgia? Then you'll want Blast From the Past! Gorgeous hunk, Brendan Frasier and beautiful Alicia Silverstone have great onscreen chemistry, as he tries to win her heart the old fashioned way and she tries to help him catch up to the present. He emerges above ground at 35 years old, from being raised in an enormous underground bomb shelter, totally unaware of the complexities and computerized world of life today. This great film is complimented with such great actors as Chris Walken and Sissy Spacek, as Brendan's 1950's-type parents. It is non-stop chuckle as Brendan tries to adjust to today, win Alicia, while Alicia tries to bring him up to speed. Buy it, watch it. You'll love it!

Blast From the Past (1999, DVD)

This has a fun time showing what appears to be the downfall of society as it was known in the 60's, only to conclude not so much has changed after all, at least, not the basics. After spending the first 35 years of his life in a fall out shelter, Adam Webber, (Brendan Frasier) learns about the "new world" while on a mission for his parents to bring supplies back to their shelter. He is wonderfully simplistic, highly intelligent, and many more qualities, without being ridiculous. Through his eyes we remember nature's miralces around us. Such as his first view of the sky and the rain falling down around him. And living in California, I know I forget how incredible the view of the ocean must be to even those from our inner states that have never seen it. Eve, (Alicia Silverstone) learns alot herself while helping Adam in this task. This movie is simple clean fun! Don't analyze it, just enjoy it!

BLAST FROM THE PAST a funny movie with some serious cultural undercurrents

BLAST FROM THE PAST is actually one of my favorite movies.
It's very funny, and basically presents a situation of: What is a guy with the good manners, cultural influences and values of the early 60's were thrown into the current vulgar and cynical era?
It's funny, but it also makes me think that we live in an era where our culture has declined greatly, where we have more freedom, but those freedoms have been abused, and we now live an era of diminished happiness, security, trust, and mutual respect. In a humorous context, BLAST FROM THE PAST gives an appreciation for what we've lost, and that our culture craves.
Love the dance scene in particular.
Brendan Frasier has been in a number of my favorite movies, including STILL BREATHING (another touching but quirky and funny movie), THE MUMMY (I and II), and the award-winning CRASH (a more serious commentary on multiculturalism)

Blast is a blast!

This is my all-time favorite movie! The concept of a family living in their fall-out shelter for over 30 years then re-emerging into modern day is fascinating, and the ensuing naivitee (sp?) of the character played by Brendan Fraser is done to a T. Christopher Walken plays his usual eccentric crack-pot role, and Sissy Spacek nails the role as mom in a June Cleaver-on-martinis fashion. Very funny, but not for children under 13, as there are some sexual references. (I suppose young children wouldn't get that part anyway, but just be warned.)
I can watch this movie over and over and never get tired of it!

I love this movie. I bought it because I knew I liked it and I knew I wanted to own it. Both Brenden Frasier and Alicia Silverstone are great actors and the story is wonderful. It's unique in the way that a family spends over 35 years living underground and raising their son. At 35 years old, Adam(Brenden Frasier) needs to buy supplies and takes his first trip to the surface world. He encounters many wonderful experiences. I love how the movie portrays the world through his eyes and those around them. The movie is also very funny. There are many good actors in the movie, it made me laugh, and I felt really good. This movie is an A+ to me. ^_^
