Movie synopsis

A madcap spoof of the classic Hollywood Western, BLAZING SADDLES is also one of the most gleefully anti-P.C. films ever produced by a major studio. When the sheriff of a small frontier town is killed, convict Bart (Cleavon Little) is appointed the first black sheriff of all-white Rock Ridge by the evil Hedley Lamarr (Harvey Korman), who hopes this will chase the townspeople from their homes. The naive Sheriff Bart soon catches on, realizing from the less than cheery welcome that the townspeople (who all seem to be named Johnson) aren't prepared for a black sheriff and that he was never meant to succeed at all. Enlisting the help of the sensitive town drunk (Gene Wilder), formerly the Waco Kid, Bart embarks on a plan to save Rock Ridge. A scathing spoof that deals with racism, sexism, and bodily functions, BLAZING SADDLES offers a contrast between picture and words that is shocking, subversive, and hilarious. Director Mel Brooks makes two memorable appearances--as both the sleazy governor and a Yiddish-speaking Sioux Indian chief--while Madeline Kahn does a sidesplitting Marlene Dietrich imitation as the town floozy. Featuring fabulous comic turns by Alex Karras and Slim Pickens, BLAZING SADDLES is raunchy, lovable, and uproarious.

Blazing Saddles 30th Anniversary Special Edition

Created: 21/06/09
With a lineup of actors including Cleavon Little, Gene Wilder, Harvey Korman, Mel Brooks, Slim Pickens, and Madeline Kahn, Blazing Saddles is, quite possibly, the funniest western spoof of all times. This movie pokes fun at the political and prejudicial controversies of the 1970s and keeps you laughing from the opening scene to the final credits. In addition, this 30th Anniversary Special Edition also includes new digital transfer, remastered soundtrack in Dolby Digital 5.1, two crazy documentaries..."Back in the Saddle" and an excerpt from "Intimate Portrait: Madeline Kahn". Also included is "Black Bart", a 1975 Pilot Episode of a proposed TV series spinoff. All in all, this was one of those "just can't pass this up" items that I love to find on ebay.

GOOD TO SEE A MOVIE THAT IS NOT POLITICALLY CORRECT!

Created: 18/01/09
THIS 30TH ANNIVERSARY DVD IS THE ONE TO GET. ALL THE INTERESTING DIALOGUE THAT WAS NOT APPROVED BY THE STUDIO FOR THE ORIGINAL SCRIPT, IS FILLED IN BY MEL BROOKS IN THE VERY COMPREHENSIVE COMMENTARY PROVIDED ON THIS DVD AND ADDITIONAL INTERVIEWS WITH OTHER CAST MEMBERS.

EXCELLENT PRINT TRANSFER OF ORIGINAL FILM TO DVD, WITH EXCEPTIONAL ADDITIONAL COMMENTARY AND ORIGINAL TRAILER. IN THIS DAY OF EVERYTHING BEING SANITIZED AND POLITICALLY CORRECT, IT IS REFRESHING TO KNOW THAT THIS MOVIE HAS NOT BEEN BANNED FROM THE PUBLIC AS WERE THE TREMENDOUSLY FUNNY AMOS AND ANDY RADIO AND TELEVISION SHOWS. YOU WILL NEVER SEE THIS ORIGINAL PRINT ON TELEVISION, BUT IT IS AVAILABLE ON THIS 30TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION. BETTER GET THIS ONE SOON, AS IT MAY END UP EVENTUALLY BEING BANNED IN THE SAME MANNER AS WALT DISNEY'S MASTERPIECE, "SONG OF THE SOUTH".

GLAD TO SEE THAT PEOPLE CAN INDEED LET THEIR HAIR DOWN AND JUST BE FUNNY, AND IN SO DOING OFFEND ABSOLUTELY NO ONE. A DEFINITE RARITY IN THESE VERY RIGID AND OPPRESSIVE TIMES, 30 YEARS LATER. DON'T MISS THIS ONE. MEL BROOKS GIVES US A TASTE OF FRESH AIR AGAIN, IN TOTALLY DISREGARDING WHAT IS CONSIDERED POLITICALLY CORRECT!

Blazing Saddles

Blazing Saddles is the classic Mel Brooks comedy in which a black railroad worker takes over as sheriff of Rockridge, a small community in the "Old West". The ensuing story pokes fun at the cliches of western movies and at ethnic and racial prejudice. Brooks regular stable of actors, Gene Wilder, Madeline Kahn, Harvey Karman, Slim Pickens, and Brooks himself fill out the billing. A laugh a minute is guaranteed.

The movie that farts built

Created: 09/08/06
I bought this movie because I wanted the more recent version, which included interviews with key people who were involved in the making of it. My Mel Brooks collection is beginning to look pretty well rounded out, thanks to this.

A lovely side benefit was the chance to introduce my daughter to the more slapstick side of Mel Brooks. In between laughing uproariously, she would intersperse questions such as "Who is Hedy Lamarr?" and "What's with all those Johnsons in Rock Ridge?"

After watching it again recently, along with the several others I own, I can see that Mel Brooks definitely had his own regulars, that made it to so many of his films. We both loved Mongo, as played by Alex Karras; and of course, Madeline Kahn, whose very presence brightened up anything she was in.

The best part of this movie, and what makes it memorable, is, of course, the campfire scene. All those beans and only one way for them to explode. Bfffft! Probably one of the longest sight (and sound) gags in film history.

Blazing Saddles DVD

Created: 08/07/06
Blazing Saddles is one of the funniest movies ever made and truly groundbreaking. Mel Brooks out did himself with this creation. An incredible group of comedic writers worked on this film and not only made it hilarious but truly entertaining. Ok, the plot wasn't great and yeah, it can be kinda corny in spots but you will not find a funnier movie! Simple, complex, raunchy, gut busting, stupid and even thought provoking humor ... it's got it all and then some. If you've never seen it, rent it (oops this is eBay, so BUY IT NOW) watch it a few times and you'll find something you missed. I bet it will keep you laughing for days.

If, for some reason, you don't understand it or you didn't like it, talk to someone about the movie and before too long, you both will be cracking up.
