    Publisher's Note

Stephen King has forced us to confront our greatest fears. He has guided us through the depths of our imagination to places we never would have ventured alone. Now, in Blood and Smoke, he takes us inside a world of yearning and paranoia, isolation and addiction. It is the world of the smoker.

In this audio-only collection, the now politically incorrect habit plays a key role in the fates of three different men in three unabridged stories of unfiltered suspense.

In Lunch at the Gotham Café, Steve Davis is suffering through intense withdrawal -- from both nicotine and his wife. His desperation for a cigarette and for his ex are almost too much to bear, but that's nothing compared to the horrors that await him at a trendy Manhattan restaurant.

In 1408, Mike Enslin, bestselling author of "true" ghost stories, decides to spend the night in New York City's most haunted hotel room. But he must live to write about it without the help of his ex best-friends, his trusty smokes.

And in In the Deathroom, a man named Fletcher is held captive in a South American stronghold. His captors will use any tortuous means necessary to extract the information they want from him. His only hope lies with his last request -- one last cigarette, please.

A cartonfull of chills and thrills, Blood and Smoke is classic Stephen King. The most mesmerizing storyteller of our time is at his inventive and compelling best.

Available only on audio, this collection of three unabridged short stories featuring two never before publishedincludes "1408," where a bestselling ghost story writer must spend the night in New York City's most haunted hotel roomand live to tell about it. Read by the author.

    Audiobook : Three Short Stories

"Listening after dark may cause fear, trembling, and lead to acute paranoia."

Simon & Schuster released this King collection in 1999. It has three short stories which are linked all being based on stories that relate to smoking.

1408- A story about a best-selling ghost story author who vies to spend the night in the notoriously most haunted hotel room in New York City, without his old friend nicotine. A terrifying story well told. From the crooked door to the phone call it will keep you wanting to listen.

In The Deathroom- A man is held captive in a South American hideout. The torture and harassment made me feel and sympathize with him. A single cigarette, his dying wish, becomes his only chance at survival.

    Lunch at the Gotham Cafe-

A man is on his last ropes. Suffering from withdrawal from his soon to be ex-wife and nicotine. He seems to be at a loss. But what awaits him at a New York City restaurant, with the help of a crazed waiter, makes this look like kiddie stuff.

A truly gorgeous story-telling session, with the author himself. Stephen King narrates himself wonderfully, and brings this story to life. It will clearly make the day at work go faster, or maybe it's good for some late night horror. Maybe you'd better stick to listening at work, at home you will not sleep after.

    Blood & Smoke Audio Cassette

    Created: 21/07/09
Blood & Smoke is a 3 tape set of the author, Stephen King reading 3 of his own short stories. Each story has its roots set in the fears of addiction & the process of overcoming those addictions.
The cassettes are boxed in an oversized cigarette pack with a flip top...just like a back of Marlboro reds.
The 3 stories are "Lunch @ the Gotham Cafe", "1408", & "In the Deathroom"
Stephen reads patiently, succinctly, and with the right amount of suspense & emotion.
To have a reading by the author is a great addition to any collection.

enjoyable...it sometimes "feels" drawn out. Edgar Allen Poe, Hitchcock, Rod Serling have all done it with more skill and artistic flair. Stephen King is not yet in that company, but it seems like that's what he is aiming for. it was interesting, i always like his nods to eldritch unspeakables reminiscent of Lovecraft... he's done so much better with his other short stories. like the ones in night shift and skeleton crew. also shorts like children of the corn, the raft, the mist, even the longer Pet Semetary or Jerusalem lot--dare ya to read one of those on a dark and stormy night, all alone, with only the reading light on..... just to name a few. if you like or love king you'll like or love this. if you don't, are still working on an opinion or if this is your first time... here's protection, please don't let this effort speak or should i say bleed for all. enjoy

Wonderful stories read by the master himself. Can't get any better than that! Had not listened to an audio book before this but being a King fan I bought it when I saw it listed on eBay. I highly recommend it.
