Blood Work (DVD, 2002, Widescreen)

Clint Eastwood, Wanda De Jesus, Jeff Daniels|Theatrical release: 2002 | Rating: R (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

BLOOD WORK, starring Clint Eastwood as retired FBI agent Terry McCaleb, is a mystery thriller about a serial killer whose latest victim was the organ donor responsible for McCaleb's recent heart transplant. When the victim's sister, Graciella (Wanda de Jesus), delivers this strange news to him and asks for his help, he has no choice but to answer her call, against his doctor's wishes. While frisky LAPD officers try to keep McCaleb away because his top-notch profiling skills make their efforts seem feeble, and McCaleb's physical strength and stamina are limited more than ever before, it seems as if the case is destined to go unsolved. But McCaleb's conscience weighs too heavily upon him to let the murderer go free, and the only way to clear his mind and find peace is to throw his full energy into the investigation. McCaleb lives on a boat and is well-acquainted with a lazy, drunken young man, Buddy (Jeff Daniels), who lives on a boat in the same berth, so he enlists Buddy as his driver and assistant. What ensues is an excellent police drama that leads McCaleb through an extensive process of analyzing evidence, questioning people related to the crimes, and breaking codes, and results in a chilling and totally unexpected climax.

Happy Valentines Day~ Clever Killer~ slow but GOOD~

Created: 28/02/10
PLOT: FBI "profiler" Terry McCabe~ (EASTWOOD) is called in a series of murders~ the KILLER leaves HIM messages~in public challenge to get caught~ during a CHASE Terry has a heart attack and has to give up the "chase"~

BASED ON THE Michael Connelly bestseller~ FBI PROFILER has a serial killer who sends Terry McCabe (EASTWOOD) messages to help locate him~ KILLER is of course a Psycho with a brilliant plan of escape~ while a chase in an alley~ Terry has a heart attack and a heart transplant saves HIS life but leads to "a forced early retirement"~ while adjusting to his sedate "retirement"~ a lovely hispanic woman shows up to "hire" him to find who killed her sister~ (Wanda DeJesus)soon Wanda and Terry (Clint Eastwood) have this turn personal~ the dead "victim" is Wanda's SISTER is also the 'DONOR' OF TERRYS NEW HEART~ soon Terry has the clue~ the KILLER is his old nemesis~ who "purposely" killed Wanda's Sister and one other victim~ with the purpose "Terry" would get their heart~ so he could HELP keep TERRY ALIVE~ ~which allows the GAME of cat and mouse to continue~ ~ as Terry gets closer to some answers we see the PLOT pick up~ Jeff Daniels is very good as the lazy neighbor who's spends his days drinking his life away~ DeJesus is good as the sister who will not give up~ WOULD HAVE BEEN A MUCH BETTER MOVIE AT 90 MINUTES~ I GIVE IT A THREE OUT OF FIVE~ STILL WORTH WATCH TO SEE A "INTERESTING" SERIAL KILLER AND HOW HE PLOTS AND HIDES IN PLAIN SIGHT~

Creative License Gone too Far!

I have always been a Clint Eastwood fan...and that will still continue but I think I made the mistake of reading the book before seeing this movie (yes I know they have both been out for a while). And that is the problem. The book by Michael Connelly was terrific. The depth of his story and the characters is very impressive. And then you see the movie and it had me going "who is that supposed to be?" and "why is he doing that". I know that the Hollywood versions of many things change but in the case of this movie they should have just thrown away what little they used of the book and gone for a fresh story (oh wait that's what they did).
I think that a lot of the potential for a great thriller was right there in front of them and the mark was missed. The whole movie as a whole lost it for me with the straying from a great book. What is it...lost in translation?

Do not read the book

Created: 19/04/08
I made the mistake of reading the book first. This book is loosely based on the book. Clint Eastwood is hardly my image of Terry McCaleb and what did they do to Buddy (read the book and you'll understand)? Hint - Buddy's name in the book is Buddy Lockridge...not Noone. My wife, who hasn't read the book, liked it though.
