Album Notes
Contains 2 LPs on 1 CD.The J. Geils Band: J. Geils (guitar); Seth Justman (vocals, keyboards); Stephen Jo Bladd (vocals, percussion); Peter Wolf (vocals); Magic Dick (harmonica); Danny Klein (bass).Producers: Allan Blazek, Bill Szymczyk, The J. Geils Band.Recorded live at The Boston Garden, Boston, Massachusettes on November 15, 1975 and at Cobo Hall, Detroit, Michigan on November 19, 1975. Originally released on Atlantic (2-507). Includes liner notes by Jeff Tamarkin. This is part of Rhino Records' "Atlantic Remasters" Series.Though the J. Geils Band issued a steady stream of solid R&B-infused rock records in the '70s, it always seemed that the group was better suited for raging on the concert stage than being ensconced in a cushy recording studio. Their first live album, 1972's LIVE FULL HOUSE, proved this, and remains one of the band's strongest recordings from beginning to end. It was only a matter of time until J. Geils issued a follow-up, 1976's appropriately titled BLOW YOUR FACE OUT.Every drop of the group's in-concert energy is captured splendidly throughout, especially on such standout cuts as a fantastic rendition of their early hit "Musta Got Lost," the red hot album/concert opener "Southside Shuffle," and of course the fun-filled anthem, "Houseparty." BLOW YOUR FACE OUT remains one of the great rock and party albums of the '70s.

A Great Live Performance from a Great Live Band!

Created: 23/01/10
When I think of going to concerts as a teenager in the 70's, Blow Your Face Out brings it all back. The J. Geils Band was one of the best, if not the best,
live acts to catch in the hallowed 1970's. They brought their badass, bar-band swagger to every packed arena and gave it all they had - every time.
That energy is somehow captured here in this recording. From the opening "Southside Shuffle" to the closing "Give it to Me", this band tears through every song with a power and vengence that has not been duplicated.
They were a better live band then in the studio (check out Full House too) - a rarity in the music business. I wore this album out as a teenager! Made Loud to Play Loud!

Energy

Created: 09/03/07
I gave this album a rating of good although by most accounts it probably deserves an excellent. What do I mean ? The J. Geils Band was one of the most energetic and entertaining live bands of the '70s. If this was the only Live recording done By the JGB I would give it an overwhelming Excellent rating. However, in 1972 just 3 years into their recording career JGB released a smoking one disc live set called "Full House" that displayed the band in all of their soulful glory. That brings us to this recording "Live- Blow Your Face Out" This is a slightly more stuctured double live album that was so common in the 1970's. However, this is the J. Geils Band Live and it delivers Rock, Soul, R&B and even Country in a way that only The J. Geils Band could. Add this disc to your collection and be prepared to dance the night away.

Blow Your Face Out by The J. Geils Band LIVE

Created: 06/06/10
I saw the J. Geils band 5 times back in the 70's and 80's. What a stage show!!
Peter Wolf was captivating and the place was always rocking.
If you ever saw a show you know what I mean. He paced the stage with that voice that went from a growl to a whisper.
I went to hundreds of concerts and the Geils band was right up there with Van Halen(not Van Hagar) and yes I dare say it Pink Floyd. You walked out of the concert hall with a big smile on your face and in your heart.
Sure I have it on LP and 8-track but this CD cranked in your car will make any drive shorter- promise.

One of the Best Live Albums of all time

Created: 04/05/08
This is one of the Best live Albums of All Time, it's right up their with Frampton Live. The energy level is tremendous, Peter Wolf is as good a front man as Mick Jagger or David Lee Roth. Seth Justman is tremendous on keyboard.

Blow Your Face Out-J. Geils

Created: 09/12/07
J. Geils has always been one of my favorite live acts and this cd captures them at their very best. It brings me back to the 70's and watching them bring the house down. Maybe the best boogie band from the early to mid 70's. An awsome cd that I'd rate right up there with The Ramones It's Alive album as one of the 5 best live albums of all times.
