Movie synopsis

Leonardo DiCaprio fights terrorists for the CIA in this rapid-fire thriller from director Ridley Scott (GLADIATOR, BLACK HAWK DOWN). While Roger Ferris (DiCaprio) gets his hands dirty on the teeming Arab streets, his handler Ed Hoffman (Russell Crowe) watches from Washington via spy satellite, cheerfully giving bull-in-a-china-shop style orders while picking up his kids from school. Innocent lives are lost, buildings blow up, and the threat of winding up beheaded on the internet is always one move away. LIES is decked out from front to back with fascinating bits of Arabic and espionage minutiae as it races along its wild mission to track down an elusive terrorist sect leader. Crowe has fun in his portly Southern-accented INSIDER mode, while DiCaprio does his usual anguished moral suffering over the fate of individuals (To Crowe's Hoffman, it's all just part of war and nobody's innocent). As the suave head of Jordanian intelligence, Mark Strong gives a scene-stealing, cobra-like performance that clashes beautifully with Crowe's "ugly American" bullying. The beautiful Golshifteh Farahani plays the obligatory love interest, the nurse who treats Ferris's regularly occurring battle and torture wounds. When most action heroes are completely healed within minutes of every fight, it's refreshing--in a grisly sort of way--to see how Ferris's wounds bruises pile up. The solid, punchy script is by William Monahan (THE DEPARTED) from the David Ignatius novel., Though this thriller is the fourth collaboration between Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe, it marks the veteran director's first pairing with Leonardo DiCaprio. In this adaptation of a novel by David Ignatius, DiCaprio plays a CIA agent who wants the help of a more experienced agent (Crowe) in his investigation of a Jordanian terrorist.

another war-on-terror thriller

Created: 06/07/09
This movie seems to be a issues after 911 .

A spy-thriller Movie based on Middle eastern relationship with Western world .

DiCaprio shines as usual . He speak clear and fluent arabic . Powerfull performance by a fine actor

the movie is Based on the 2007 spy novel by David Ignatius, Body of Lies tells the story of a CIA operative Roger Ferris (DiCaprio) who is sent to Jordan to track down an Al-Qaeda mastermind, all the while treading a narrow tightrope of loyalty to his Jordanian hosts and his manipulative American boss Ed Hoffman (Crowe).

The movie is not fast paced movie . It is kind of slow and then catches it ...

This is another war-on-terror thriller ,same old subject . I have given 3 star , nothing new in the movie except the powerful performace from DiCaprio

Body of Lies is essentially a more hermetic duet, as Russell Crowe's pudgy CIA honcho Hoffman phones in a series of clandestine execution instructions to Middle Eastern operative Ferris (Leonardo DiCaprio) between handfuls of junk food at his suburban Virginia digs. This pair of odd couple, government ordained off-the-books murder incorporated thuggish protagonists' alternates between butting heads over covert murder methods, and moments of intended comic relief banter which is just not funny, under the circumstances.
After pulling off an incineration of an entire insurgent hideaway in the desert, during which these unbelievably dumb and dumber seasoned fighters have no idea that Leonardo's friendly white infiltrator isn't an Arab; Ferris heads off to Amman, Jordan for further instructions from his eating disorder text messenger mate. This, while engaging on the side in a little Geneva Conventions dodging, free lance maneuvers of his own, shooting suspicious pedestrians in the back of the head in broad daylight.
Ferris' new assignment is to lure an apparently shy mystery terrorist out into the cold, with a little help from the local intelligence chief (Mark Strong), a dandy in designer suits who has his nails done between pulling out with pliers those of his disappeared torture victims. When captured for a bit himself, Ferris takes some applied finger crushing in relative stride, while remaining lucid enough to deliver a speech scolding his captors for being sucker dupes as fleeting tools of the oil companies.

Hope this helps you decide. Thanks for reading! :)

It was ok.

Body of Lies is an average movie that stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Roger Ferris a CIA spy in the middle east. He is headstrong and opinionated but is controlled by Russell Crowe's character Ed Hoffman.

The movie follows Ferris and Crowe's attempt to capture a terrorist organization. Along the way the enlist the help of Hani Salaam who is the head of another countries security organization.

The movie had good action shots but I found the story plodding and boring in most parts. It just seemed forced. :/

Great Action Movie From DiCaprio and Crowe

Created: 04/08/10
This movie takes a lot of flack from critics, but I enjoy it mightily. DiCaprio stars as Roger Ferris, a CIA agent on the ground in Iraq working to break up a terrorist group responsible for several bombings in Europe. Ferris must overcome the meddling of his boss (Russell Crowe), while working to stop the terrorists and protect his newfound love. A solid action movie with some brains.
