The Bone Collector (DVD, 2000, Anamorphic Widescreen)

At the time THE BONE COLLECTOR was made, Denzel Washington was Hollywood's top leading man, but Queen Latifah and Angelina Jolie were relatively unknown newcomers. Watching this movie, it's easy to see why both actresses eventually made it big. Denzel plays a well-known police investigator and author who becomes a quadriplegic. He thinks he wants to die --- until he's confronted by a killer and decides to fight back. (If you're a quadriplegic who thinks you're defenseless, pay close attention to what Denzel does at the end; it's astonishing, yet possible). Queen Latifah, as Denzel's in-home care provider, delivers one of her finest dramatic performances. She truly becomes her character. Jolie is also incredible, because this is not her typical role. Often, Angelina Jolie plays herself: first the crazy wild-child she was during her marriage to Billy Bob Thornton (GIRL INTERRUPTED; GIA), then the strong woman taking on the world by herself (THE CHANGELING; TOMB RAIDER; BEYOND BORDERS). In THE BONE COLLECTOR, Jolie is a good police officer and a good woman, but she is not an independent crusader. She functions as Denzel's surrogate body, going to crime scenes he cannot visit and reporting back. Denzel is the brilliant investigator, while Jolie has potential but is often unsure or unwilling. She is just as dependent on him as he is on her. The actors portray this relationship very believably. THE BONE COLLECTOR is also a great mystery. You probably won't guess the killer's identity until Denzel does.

Silence of the Lambs fans will not appreciate this movie as much. It is a thriller with a serial killer, but not as excellent as Silence of the Lambs. Angelina Jolie, Denzel Washington and Queen Latifah are this movie and they are great. Denzel is an injured police officer and author. Angelina is a police officer investigating a serial killer case. Queen Latifah is the taxi driver (just kidding)! Good movie to add to your collection.

This is an excellent movie, one you can watch over and over again. A great suspense thriller based on the Jeffery Deaver novels, Angelina Jolie and Denzel Washington are at their best portraying these two complex characters. I highly recommended this movie to anyone that enjoys supense thrillers. A defintite edge of your seat type of movie!

THE ENDLESS TICKING OF THE CLOCK REMINDED ME OF EDGAR ALLEN POE'S "THE TELL-TALE HEART", BUT WITH A NEW TWIST..... BETRAYAL FROM WITHIN. NOT FROM WITHIN ONE'S SELF, BUT FROM WITHIN ONE'S CIRCLE OF FRIENDS! THE PROTAGONIST AS THE ANTAGONIST. FAST-PACED AND AS CREEPY AS ANY HITCHCOCKIAN MOVIE I'VE EVER SEEN, THIS MOVIE LEAVES YOU PANTING AT THE END, AND THE FINAL PLUNGE INTO THE ABYSS TAKES YOUR BREATH AWAY. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE WHAT THE 'SPECIAL EDITION', IF THERE IS ONE, MIGHT ADD TO THE HEAD-LONG TERROR THAT AWAITS YOU AT EVERY TURN. I WATCHED WHAT I WOULD ASSUME TO BE THE MORE "BARE-BONES" VHS VERSION, IF YOU'LL PARDEN MY PUN. CREEPY, CLAUSTROPHOBIC AND CLIMACTIC! JOLIE AND WASHINGTON ARE MASTERFUL IN THEIR PORTRAYALS OF THE MAIN 'GOOD GUYS'! THE ANIMUS BETWEEN THEM AND THEIR BOSS MAKE YOU WONDER WHO THE BAD GUY REALLY IS. BUT I'M NOT TELLIN'. Received the DVD-the Bone Collector quickly and was in excellent condition. I teach Forensic Science at the local community college and the opening scences where Angelina Jolie/Amelia is observing the crime scene is right on. This movie makes an excellent opener to my course. Thanks. Jeanne50
