Book of Daniel - The Complete Series (DVD, 2006, 2-Disc Set)

THE BEST SHOW ON TV SINCE M*A*S*H! A powerful and profound series that examines all sorts of relationships, including man's (in the person of Daniel) with Jesus, and by extension, with God. However, this is not a show for or about "Bible-thumpers" -- it is about a group of very believeable characters, their interactions, trials and tribulations; much better and more believeable that most of the tripe on TV now. It treats subjects with humour (much like M*A*S*H) but allows the profound to show through also. The characters are very human and though no single group would ever have all these things happen to them, this series (much too short a series) examines all the "adventures" with grace, style, good humour and dignity! If you miss this one, it's your loss!!!!

I bought the dvds because I only saw the last broadcast episode and was interested in seeing the rest. I enjoy this show because I think the situations are humorous, intentionally or unintentionally, and because the faith aspects make me think. Mostly I enjoy the interactions between Daniel and Jesus. Daniel is a good man trying to navigate through some challenging life situations, and he talks to Jesus to help him through them. Some find the situations offensive, but it's only TV and not real life. If it makes you think, the show serves its purpose.

It had nothing to do with God and the Bible. The whole show is about this guy Daniel's life and it was dissapointing. The storyline included gay men in bed which was not appealing in the least, a family with a seemingly perfect home and family but each member of the family has major issues. It was fun not to watch. They threw in Jesus appearing and talking to Daniel, a priest, with a drug problem. It was terrible, no wonder it was cancelled.

The Book of Daniel was a controversial series that was aired on NBC in 2006.
The series put a human face on religion, dealt with religious and human issues that caused certain religious groups to actively campaign for the cancellation of the show. I'm not going to get into the gory details of that here, but I am going to say that the show was excellent and if you haven't seen it, you might want to buy this dvd package and decide for yourself.

This dvd is the best I have come across in quite some time. I rented it from my local library and it just blew me away. A lot of people put the series down when is was on tv a couple of years back because of the way it talked about the preacher of the church and all the towns people and all their troubles that happened there. To me it was quite amazing and cheerful the way things came about as well as the sorrow of some of the bad times. In my opinion, I wish and hope that they do a sequel to it as there are many things left up in the air that need to be brought out to finish the series.
