Bordertown
Created: 01/09/09
Based on true story of nearly 400 women that had been murdered in the
border town of Juarez Mexico between 1993 and 2005 as described by the
Editor of the Mexican city newspaper El Sol. In this flix, american
reported Lauren Fredericks (Jennifer Lopez) is assigned by her editor
(Martin Sheen) to investigate the rape/murders of the women. As she
investigates, she discovers a cover up by local authorities. With the
help of colleague Alfonso (Antonio Banderas) she helps the only survivor
find the courage to tell her story. This is a dramatic narrative against
the backdrop of the shocking true events. Director Gregory Nave (Selena)
continues his good work in a smooth running film although it does include
nudity, violence and rape scenes that will offend some-still a view of
real life in some of the border areas that you do not hear alot about.
Good for a nights entertainment and an interesting true story.

I have to say that just because this movie went straight to DVD, doesn't mean it is second rate. The movie features big stars such as JLo, Antonio Banderas, Martin Sheen, and Sonia Braga. I feel that as in the movie where certain entities did not want the world to know about what is happening in Juarez, so it is in real life. It is worth seeing.

True drama / a look inside a little known crime

Bordertown is really an essay on how American companies have setup outside our borders in Mexico. How greed has forced its way onto a culture not bound by the stanch standards and regulations known in the USA for its labor force. And where sex crimes are just too easy to commit and get away with.
You won't feel good after watching this film but it will open your eyes as to how one human being can prey on another with little regard for humanity. And there is this uneasiness in your gut that you know what you're viewing is real.
It also gives rise to a reason why so many Mexicans leave their countries for a better life. The workers in Mexico and other such countries where foreign companies set up for the cheap labor, are treated like cheap wine, if you spill a little big deal, there is always more.
Its sad, tragic, and sex crimes are never pretty. It is a compelling story, and one that people who care about the human race should consider viewing. I think it would have been just as good without the celebrity actors, and perhaps more real.
What I mean by that is that Jenifer Lopez is a good actress, she is one of my favorites, but because she has so much face time on Celeb rags and tv shows, that follow her flashy glam life, its really difficult to see her as anything more that J-Lo on the screen.
I'm sure it is its a marketing aspect of all movies, but it really doesn't add to the film, and on so serious a subject matter, it would have been more realistic to use the talents of a lesser known actor. My opinion of course.
Its no slight on Jenifer Lopez, she has already proven herself to be a very accomplished actress. I think its just that there is a point where some celebs reach to much public exposure, that they don't have the ability to stop being themselves on the screen, and that doesn't help the cinematic value of this film.
This film is worth watching. Its a solid "good". But if you're after a happy ending, you'd be better off skipping it.

Bordertown,is a must to watch, because they should have security,to making sure that the workers are safe from one place to another!
The story it self is very true, and still remains to happen in mexico. It makes you beaware of your surroundings, and makes you lery about taking a bus or working in a factory! It's very sad what happens to all the woman, that works in the factory, and for the ones that have to take a bus to get around to and from work! what got me the most on this story other than what happens to them,is the pay!!! only $5 a day,it very sad because the hard work they do, well they should get paid more.

Love the tru story of Juarez and Jennifer Lopez's role as the reporter. Ithink the US should educate us more than they do about the violence in Juarez. This movie does it !
