Album Notes
This is a Hyper CD which contains regular audio tracks and provides a link to the artist's website with the help of a web browser.Staind: Aaron Lewis (vocals); Mike Mushok (guitar); Johnny "Old School" April (bass); Jon Wysocki (drums).Recorded at NRG Studios, Los Angeles, California; Longview Farm Studios, North Brookfield, Massachussetts; Southbeach Studios, Miami Beach, Florida; Electric Lady Recording Studio, New York, New York.Audio Mixers: Andy Wallace; Steve Sisco.Recording information: Electric Lady Recording Studio, New York, NY; Longview Farm Studios, North Brookfield, MA; NRG Studios, Los Angeles, CA; Southbeach Studios, Miami Beach, FL.Illustrator: Craig Howell. Most modern hard rock bands miss the mark by over-emphasizing great riffs and neglecting the importance of complementary vocals. Luckily, such is not the case with Staind, who owe some nods to Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst for career guidance. Durst encouraged vocalist Aaron Lewis to sing more and scream less, which proved to be a key factor in the band's development. The appeal of Staind lies in the purity and fierce emotional integrity of their music, traits seldom seen in heavy rock since Suicidal Tendencies and Pantera ruled the roost.Lewis's moonlighting as a solo acoustic performer in the band's lean years serves Staind well as BREAK THE CYCLE boasts a well balanced set of thrashy material ("Open Your Eyes" and "Safe Place") offset by more gentle rock ballads ("Fade" and "Suffer"). It is the impact of those ballads that sets Staind apart from their new-metal brethren. The radio-bound "It's Been Awhile" and full-band treatment of "Outside" strike universal chords, effectively capturing the bitterness of regret and facing reality with brooding hopefulness.

Editorial Reviews
...Staind have claimed an even firmer grip on its moody rock crown with this album...

3.5 stars out of 5 - ...Misery rock's most song-oriented, downright sensitive band in years....they don't need to split eardrums to open hearts...

Staind:Break The Cycle [Austraila Bonus Track] CD 2001

Created: 02/01/07
"But everything that I can say to you
Won't help you - everything you need is right in front of you
Just take it"

The primary reason that I purchased --or should I say-- REpurchased it was because I first bought it at a retail store when it was released a few years ago. I kept the CD in my car's CD changer. I sang along to most of the songs on the CD (especially Outside and It's Been Awile).

Recently I took second place at the finals of a Bay Area Karaoke contest. I wanted to sing Staind, but it was a duet, and my partner didn't know the song well enough. Since 2001 I had been overseas and had forgotten most of the lyrics.

This CD is in my library under Style:Rock, Genre:Metal. This CD provides both blistering guitar licks and soft, dramatic ballads. If you like either of the aforementioned songs, you'll probably like Fade and Warm Safe Place. If you like "For You", you'll like most of the other tunes on this CD like, "Open Your Eyes", "Pressure", "Suffer", and "Change" This CD also includes a song by Aaron Lewis called Epiphany. The CD that I have comes up in Windows Media Player with 14 tracks, the last of which says, "Outside [Live]" but it is actually an acoustic version of "It's Been A While". I suppose that this was the intended "Austrailia Bonus Track".

Anger, Passion, Beauty and Tenderness

Created: 14/12/06
Staind is great for those days when you're at discord with life, the music drives hard with passionate to brutal force. It is all about emotion, and feeling, from deep down in the guts of rage, to love that's never quite satisfied. Even in the boyishly appealing tender moments, as in "Epiphany" or "Outside," never a happy song to the lot, but it's honest in dissecting the ugliness or despair that lies beneath our expectations and defeats. Some of the songs are best described as 'beautiful,' in the way the sentiments are expressed by lyric and music, "Epiphany" is that, and "Outside" as well. Aaron Lewis defines the art of passion and feeling in his work, can feel the sweat, the bleeding, the infernal rage. And of course, we love his gift because our hearts have all been crushed in the "pit and pendulum" pressures, swinging between elation and suffering, and know exactly what he means. Crash and Burn best describes the style of his music at its hardest.

Wonderful CD, Wonderful Band!

Created: 09/06/06
Staind is an amazing band that other bands have been mimicing for years. This compact disc has many amazing songs on it, some played on the radio and a few less popular songs that you can fall in love with like new. I decided to buy this cd because it has my husbands favorite song and we had recently seen Staind in concert so it made a perfect birthday gift! I dont have any complaints about this cd and I cant wait to complete my entire staind library.
