The Breakfast Club (DVD, 1998, Widescreen; Subtitled Spanish)

John Hughes, Paul Gleason, Molly Ringwald|Theatrical release: 1984 | Rating: R (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

When five high school students from different social groups are forced to spend a Saturday together in detention, they find themselves interacting with and understanding each other for the first time. A jock (Emilio Estevez), a criminal (Judd Nelson), a princess (Molly Ringwald), a basket case (Ally Sheedy), and a brain (Anthony Michael Hall) talk about everything from parental tension to sex to peer pressure to hurtful stereotypes while serving time. Ultimately, the five find that they may have more in common than they ever imagined and learn more about themselves as well as each other. The only question is, Will they remember what they've learned after they leave detention? Director and writer John Hughes, along with the stellar Brat Pack, cast makes this a memorable, moving film filled with believable dialogue, intelligent humor, and a sufficient dose of high school hijinx. Its timeless appeal makes this film a teen classic along with Hughes's other teen films from the 1980s: SIXTEEN CANDLES and FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF. A great soundtrack features the hit "Don't You (Forget About Me)" by Simple Minds.

The Breakfast Club: Timeless Classic

Created: 19/08/08
I may not be a child of the eighties, but I've loved this movie ever since I saw it for the first time a few years ago. It's one of those movies that stays with you and gets you thinking. Any person can relate to it for it's based on very diverse characters. It teaches the important lesson of even though we appear to be different, we're all very much the same. I believe this movie about five teen stereotypes - a jock, a beauty, a criminal, a basketcase, and a brain who find friendship among each other in a day's time - will live on for years to come. It truly is a timeless classic that anyone one of any generation can surely relate to. If you haven't seen it, I reccomend you do as soon as possible!

Good film; transcends appearance

A would-be cliche film if only it were made ten years later, I think this movie was great and sums up all the stereotypical groups in highschool. In the story five teens from different cafeteria tables all spend a day together, locked on a Saturday in detention, during which time they bond and learn things about each other that go beyond appearances. In it is fine acting from the junior performers, along with connections that feel real -- seomthing lacking in many films today due to the explosion of special effects and whatnot. This film seems to go beyond the average rat pack flick of the time and is worth a watch and a bag of popcorn.

The Breakfast Club

This is a coming of age movie that has come around again. My daughter and her friends (age 15-17) LOVE this show and watch it several times a month. These kinds of movies won't get dated, as they are about growing up, high school, rebellion, parents, friendship, acceptance for differences and reconciliation. I bought it for her because lots of her friends talk about it and have it as a favorite movie on their My Space.

Love the Brat Pack!! Reminds me so much of my high school days. Graduated in 1978. I was Molly Ringwald but always had a thing for the bad boys. (Judd Nelson)

Takes me back

I have loved this movie since it came out in the 80's. The way the movie goes through all the different groups in schools and shows the pressure on kids to be what they may or may not want to be. Judd Smith plays the bad guy, and when you hear his story you have to feel for him. I think it is a movie that really allows you to bond with the characters. In my opinion the movies with the 80's rat pack can't be beat!
