Album Notes
Personnel: Mary J. Blige (vocals); Dave Young, will.i.am, Brook (vocals); Jay-Z (rap vocals); Bryan-Michael Cox (various instruments); Raphael Saadiq (guitar, bass guitar); Craig Brockman (keyboards); U2.After her somewhat lukewarm 2003 release LOVE & LIFE, Mary J. Blige returns to her rightful place as the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul with 2005's THE BREAKTHROUGH. Blige enlisted a host of guest producers to contribute tracks to THE BREAKTHROUGH, and the result is one of her strongest and most varied albums. As usual, the sound is a mixture of smooth, urban contemporary and hip-hop edge, but Blige nails it with tracks like the pulsing "Enough Cryin'" (with its rich, multi-layered vocals) and the breezy "Can't Hide From Luv" featuring a guest spot by Jay-Z.The album's lead-off single, "Be Without You," a bittersweet slow jam, is representative of the album's themes, which focus on feelings of strength and weakness in love. But whether waxing romantic ("Can't Get Enough") or detailing the travails of the heart ("Baggage"), Blige lays down elastic R&B vocal lines that are second to none. Even a seemingly unlikely duet with Bono and U2 on "One" comes across beautifully, adding a new dimension to that familiar tune.

Mary Blige Through My Eyes (Breakthrough)

Created: 14/12/06
With her smooth voice and deep lyrics, you can't help but fall in love with Mary J. Blige. In her album, Breakthrough, she continues to take her music to another level. This cd in particular touched my soul. It was as if she was singing my words, as if she heard my silent voice and wrote it into music.
"Take Me as I Am" brings the position that you are who you are and there is no changing that. People can accept it or choose not to, but you will still be the same regardless. "Breakthrough" is an uplifting song that takes you past what you're going through to a place you can just let loose. "Good Woman Down" tells of her experiences and how she didn't let that hold her back. It encourages you to do the same and to know that you can get through the tough times. "Ain't Really Love" describes the deep despair of loving someone so much and putting up with so much, but never having it returned. You know that you have to leave, but knowing it doesn't make it any easier.
This is a fantastic album and I would recommend anyone that is going through or has gone through rough times in their life to buy it. It will uplift your spirits and help you remember why you refuse to give up and the strength you have in yourself.

Mary J out did her self on this album...unlike her 7 other albums The Breakthrough really stands out, Mary J now sounds like shes in a happy strong relationship.

”Be Without You” is just one of many songs that you’ll find yourself loving, Mary than starts the CD off by celebrating love with “No One Will Do”, “Enough Cryin” talks about getting out of a dead end relationship, The lyrics "take me as I am or have nothing at all...I can only be me" is from the song “Take Me As I Am.” I can see this as being a women’s anthem song, Mary reminds me of Chaka Khan in “Can’t Hide from Luv”, Mary sang a classic when she sang “I Found My Everything”.

Those are just some of the amazing songs on the album, now go out and buy this album and let Mary take you on a musical journey as she celebrates life and love on The Breakthrough—you won’t be disappointed!

Good at first, a little downhill from here

This cd started off real good, but toward the middle and end it gets a little boring with the exception of I Found My Everything - (with Raphael Saadiq, which sounds like an old Aretha Franklin record, & Alone - (with Dave Young). I was very disappointed in Father in You, she sounds a bit needy and helpless in that one, but for the most part it is a pretty good cd.

The Breakthrouugh - Mary J. Blige

Created: 14/02/06
The Mary J. Blige CD is the best Cd she has put out yet. Her uniqueness stands out when she sings "Be without you"!! Her R&B voice lets you know that she has matured from the 1994 Mary J. to the new and improve 2006 Mary J. Blige. I would recommend this CD to anyone. But if you are not a big fan of Mary J. Blige, i suggest that you don't get this cd...This cd is the real deal!! She speaks the truth... AND YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!!
