Brewster's Millions (DVD, 2002)

Walter Hill, Richard Pryor, John Candy|Theatrical release: 1985 | Rating: PG-13 (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

Director Walter Hill tries his hand at this adaptation of the oft-filmed novel by George Barr McCutcheon. Richard Pryor stars as Brewster, a penniless, struggling pitcher for a minor league baseball team. His luck changes when he is informed that a wealthy uncle has died, leaving him a vast fortune under one condition: in order to inherit the full amount, he must first spend 30 million dollars in thirty days. The caveat: he may not give it away, spend it frivolously, or tell anyone about the arrangement and at the end of the thirty days, no tangible assets may remain. Richard Pryor and John Candy both turn in excellent comic performances as two bush league baseball players thrust into the world of the wealthy, helping make BREWSTER'S MILLIONS a winner.

What would you do?

What would you do to spend $30 million, in thirty days, to get $300million?? I would sure like the chance to find out, wouldn't you? I love this movie, it makes a person stop and think of what it really would be like to be that rich. I personally do not know what I would do, or what I would buy. Well ok, I suppose I could go out and buy myself another Mercedes...lol, heck get one for each day of the week. This show has a great meaning to it, and Richard Pryor plays the part oh so well and then throw in John Candy, and you know it has to be a good show, if not a funny one. Don't miss out on this movie with a point.

Brewster's Millions Richard Pryor John Candy

Created: 08/03/09
This movie has been made several times going back to the silent era. Pryor is good in this one and Candy is very good as his best friend. It's pure escapeism, no awards to be won with this movie. Watching this movie will not change your life but it will make you laugh and forget about your problems for a short while.

Brewster's Millions

This movie was perfect with Richard Pryor and John Candy. Very funny and cute. I was delighted with it. Prior made it so real that you felt like you were living through all that he was going through. He captured the typical person that was poor and followed the rules of his inheritance money in the will and became poor again, so it didn't really matter anyway, but finds out in the end that he does get the larger inhertance afterall.

My favorite Pryor - plus Candy; Oh Wow

This is such a unique comedy. Absolutely a riot while at the same time having a plot and it's sweet.

John Candy is loveable. You also get a Jerry Orbach treat (Law and Order Lenny).

You can't lose with this movie.

Ten million. Ten million. Ten million dollars. It's just so outlandish that it wins again and again. I can't help laughing even though I have seen it about twenty times now.
