Movie synopsis

In the screen adaptation of BRIDGET JONES'S DIARY, Helen Fielding's international best-selling phenomenon, documentary filmmaker (and real-life inspiration for the character Shazzer) Sharon Maguire has managed a rare feat--a film as captivating as the novel. Bridget Jones (Renée Zellweger) is a pretty and neurotic thirtysomething "singleton" (in her vernacular) who vows to take control of her life after being humiliated by handsome, standoffish barrister, Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) at her parents' New Year's party. Determined to lose weight, and cut back on vices like wine, cigarettes, and workaholic-alcoholic-misogynistic men, Bridget begins a diary to chart her progress. Unfortunately, the P.R. executive hits a snag when her boss, gorgeous cad Daniel (Hugh Grant) instigates a sexy e-mail flirtation. Despite her tendency to bungle book launch parties, and any situation involving the ever-present, ever-disapproving Mark Darcy, Bridget's winning combination of charm, vulnerability, and wit intrigues not only the seductively dangerous Daniel, but also the arrogant barrister. Featuring a note-perfect performance by Zellweger, a devilishly against-type one by Grant, and the inspired casting of Firth (the object of Bridget's lusty fantasies in the book); DIARY is a clever, delightful romantic comedy guaranteed to please old fans and win new ones.

Firth and Grant are excellent!

Created: 06/02/07
I really enjoyed this movie---two minutes into it I had almost decided I wasn't going to like it at all, but another five minutes in and I was hooked. The men in this (even the wicked ones) are delightful to watch and the ending is inspired. If they hadn't felt the need to throw in a totally unnecessary sidenote character who uses the F word incessantly just for the sake of using it (Bridget even says so in a diary entry when introducing the character) it would have been just about a perfect movie. Be sure to watch for a scene that is destined to become a classic---Colin Firth and Hugh Grant going to blows in the street. Even if you don't like "chick flicks" or romances, it's worth watching the entire movie just for that one scene! Overall I give this movie an A. It will put a smile on your face, guaranteed.

Bridget Jones's Diary

This movie is easy to relate to because most women have a little bit of "Bridget" in them. You will laugh, cry, get mad, laugh, and cry again. I guarantee it!! Bridget is somewhat overweight compared to the standards in England and she has the hardest time finding the "right man". She hooks up with this dog Daniel Cleaver when we all want her with Mark Darcy. I think we all want a "Mark Darcy" in our lives when in fact most of us have a "Daniel Cleaver." If you are a sap when it comes to romantic comedies this movie is for you and with an exceptional cast and you really feel like you are right there with them. 10+ stars on the rating scale. You should also check out part 2, Bridget Jones's Diary Edge of Reason.

Bridget Jones

This move is both heartwarming and hilarious. Renee Zellweger makes the perfect Bridget Jones opposite the incredibly charming Hugh Grant and Colin Firth. This movie is an accurate portrayal of the woes of the single woman and realistically depicts human emotion.

Bridget Jones Rules

Iin 2001, while this movie was in the theatres it became almost a religion to some of us Singletons. The whole cast is wonderful especially Renee Zellweger, Colin Firth and Hugh Grant. As someone who has dated Daniels and Marks of our time, it very therapeutic. It will make you laugh and just as easily make you cry. Renee should have gotten the Academy Award for this role. While I love the book, I believe the film surpasses it. You will never look at large knickers (the British word for ladies panties) the same again!

this movie is so cute... love the humor and the blunt jokes. Colin Firth and Renee Zellweger are fantastic actors, with great chemistry. Also love Hugh Grant in this film.
