Now it's clear what distinguishes them from the rest of the roots-rock pack, and it's not just their convincing vintage musical chops. Singer/songwriter Jakob Dylan (son of Bob) has developed a knack for elliptical, imagistic lyrics that still convey urgent emotions. The intriguing collection of songs Dylan wrote for BRINGING DOWN THE HORSE catalogs the disillusionment and frustration he sees in himself and around him.Adam Duritz, Michael Penn and Sam Phillips are among a star-studded group of guests here, but their contributions are tastefully understated, never distracting the listener from the band's signature sound. One of the most distinctive pieces of that sound is the organ work of Rami Jaffee, whose style combines elements of Charles Hodges' playing for Al Green with Al Kooper's seminal work with Jakob Dylan's dad. T-Bone Burnett's sympathetic production makes the most out of the quiet, acoustic passages as well as the anthemic rockers.

Bringing Down the Horse--- The Wallflowers

Created: 02/09/08
If you like Bob Dylan's music, you'll surely like this CD, "The Wallflowers, Bringing Down the Horse" as well. Son, Jakob Dylan has BIG shoes to fill following in the steps of a legend, but have no doubt this young man will and has succeeded.

His music doesn't have quite the "voice," the "twang," well, the "DYLAN" that dad Bob did, but it's good, and he is of course not Bob.! There will be no other Bob Dylan as far as I am concerned, but Jakob Dylan is indeed his father's son when it comes to great music with a story to tell, and I can only see him getting better as his dad did as he progresses on in his music.

On a scale of 1-10, I'd rate this CD a "9." I really like it. :-)

Excellent sophore showing from Dylan and Co.

Created: 03/07/08
This record is an excellent one, showcasing Jakob Dylan and Co. at their very best. The Wallflowers have yet to top this, their second release, to date. This is not a slight against them, however, but rather a testament to just how solid this album is. After all, it's hard to beat gems like "Three Marlenas," "6th Avenue Heartache" and the massive hit "One Headlight."

If you're looking to keep your Wallflowers purchases down to one record, this is the one to get. You'll spin it time and time again without disappointment.

Bringing Down the Horse Wallflowers CD

This cd is great and I do recommend it.
All the songs are super with One Headlight and The Difference being my favorites.
Jakob Dylan's voice reminds me a little of his fathers voice but with a more modern sound.
The whole CD is a bit mellow, with a good story to each song.

Music just isn't what it used to be. Not even 10 years ago when this cd was first released. There is a smooth sound from the wallflowers and noticable musical talent. This is a very young classic must have CD in your collection
