A book that delivers on its title!

    Created: 08/11/05
This is a survey of British cavalry patterns and variations from the late 16th century to the present. I definitely appreciate the readable and detailed text that supports the great photos in this book. There is new and very detailed information about exactly what changes were made and the reasoning behind them. Martyn has well researched his topic. I also appreciate the lists of regiments and abreviations used in sword markings. I found myself hoping this author will tackle British infantry swords next! My only complaint is that is not exhaustive: Martyn has limited his examples of variations to a few representative ones for each of the general patterns. I wanted more!

A good reference for british swords

    Created: 09/08/06
The book talkes about british cavalry swords and it goes throggh the various models from early models to late, each model has a description and a photo
the description is nicely written but the pictures are of a very poor quality
they author is not familiar with the concept of FOCUS and there are too few images.
The book can be used as an ID reference for british cavalry swords, the models can be identified but it is quite dissapointing looking at the poor images.
if you already have Robson or even Bezdek's book you can pass this one
