A Worthy Recreation of a Memorable Time
Created: 19/05/08
The Bronx is Burning is a very worthy recreation of the famous 1977 Yankees season with memorable acting by Oliver Platt (Steinbrenner), John Turturro (Billy Martin) and Daniel Sunjita (Reggie Jackson). The supporting characters are also well developed and the story is entirely engaging. The other things happening around New York -- such as Son of Sam Killings -- are covered but definitely come across as secondary to the baseball plot, which is strong enough to carry the day. Full credit to ESPN for putting together this excellent package: if you are a Yankees or baseball fan, you won't be disappointed. (P.S. A lot of historical footage is really intelligently weaved into the plot, including famous ABC broadcasts of the season and World Series by Keith Jennings and Howard Cosell.)

Great Miniseries

I watched this series when it was originally aired on ESPN. At the beginning I thought it would not be that good because the series was trying to relieve this moment in time where the city of New York was going through hard time and also the Yankees were going through hard time too, but after I started watching it, I followed it until the end. It caught my attention with the great acting and the way they made the story. They tried to do it the most closely possible to the real events but adding a twist of discussions, face offs and situations the resembled a young Reggie Jackson in a Yankee uniform. I love this series. I recommend it to everyone who likes to se sports documentaries. It’s a "Two Thumbs Up" must see series. Specially for Yankee fans who want to relieve that historic 1977 run that culminated with a World Series Ring.

Happy & Sad Times

To me it could have been more about Thurman Munson and Ron Guidry. Too entirely much of Reggie Jackson and the actor playing Billy Martin was not who I would have picked; however, George Steinbrenner's part was played with so much detail and believability. All the other stuff that was going on back then seemed to mar the essence of the movie. What we need is a movie just about the Yankees back then, I think.

What an awesome series this was

very psyched about this one. The acting is superb and true to the facts, it seems. Oliver Platt and John Turturro are AMAZING in their back-and-forths and you DEFINITELY don't have to be a Yankee fan or a New Yorker to dig this. (In fact, the show gives MORE than enough fodder for Yankee hatred. hehehe)

Great story about how the Yankees of 1977 won the world series through all the turmoil of differing egos and killing sprees in the great city of New York.
