Buffy the Vampire Slayer - TV Starter Set (DVD, 2005)

Joss Whedon's series, based on his hit 1992 film, became one of the most popular in television history, airing for seven years before ending in 2003. Now collected for home viewing, this starter set offers the first few episodes, affording audiences a glimpse of the show before investing in the series' entirety. Sarah Michelle Gellar stars as a normal teenage girl who discovers that she is the Chosen One, the superhuman being whose mission it is to fight vampires and creatures of the night. Aided by her loyal friends, as well as her sister Dawn, she valiantly battles evil while attempting to maintain her collegiate lifestyle; this includes dating the reformed vampire Angel (David Boreanaz). A hip, comedic drama with some gory fight scenes and a hot soundtrack, the show reads like a vampire-busting soap opera for young adults. Included here is the first episode, "Welcome to Hellmouth," where Buffy first moves to Sunnydale only to discover it is perched atop a portal through which all manner of hellish creatures are attempting to break through. In "The Harvest," Buffy learns to accept her role as a Slayer, and begins preparations to stop the Master Vampire from breaking free of his confines.
