Can't Hardly Wait for J Lov!
Created: 01/12/06
Jennifer Love Hewitt leads an all star cast in this movie that can be considered the "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" of the '90's. It's the funny story of high school kids after graduation who attend a party. One person likes someone but that someone likes someone else and so on. One guy has a big crush on J Lov (of course who doesn't) and can't seem to tell her. He writes her a note but doesn't give it to her. Someone finds it and gives it to her and shedoesn't know what to think. But of course in the end everything works out for everyone. If you like high school comedies you will really like this one . It's a cult classic.

I like this movie on several levels. First and fore most, it is exactly the way I remember the last days of high school and I remember knowing kids who were just like the characters portrayed (the picked-on nerd, the kid who always says the most embarassing things at the wrong time, the dumb jock, the popular girl who gets dumped by the dumb jock, and so on). It has a good story, I like the music and it every time I see it I think, "God! Was that what it was really like. Of course, there are still a fair amount of people in my home town that are still that way too. And, hey, Jennifer Love Hewitt is very easy on the eyes.

The story is about a graduating high school senior, Preston, of never giving up with an infatuation with a school classmate, Amanda. He has always wanted Amanda's undivided attention, so Preston attempts to gather enough courage to give her a letter that he is written about her. He has waited patiently for four years, and he receives an opportunity from fate. Preston encounters Amanda at a graduating senior after party. He becomes fearful and does not say anything to her once they meet. As a result Preston becomes disheartened, and he believes to have blown his only opportunity. He does not know that fate begins to work, and it entails some "twists and turns." Preston does not know they will meet again, of which the story concludes to an expected ending. You must see this movie; if you want to learn more about faith, true love and timing. After all, love does not hurry. It is patient!

This underrated teen comedy from 1998 is guilty of being a proud underachiever, and it doesn't bring anything new to the genre, but look closely and you'll find the makings of a much better movie buried under all the keg-party antics. The basic story is typical for this kind of comedy. A young, aspiring writer named Preston (Ethan Embry) has been lusting after class beauty Amanda (Jennifer Love Hewitt, from TV's Party of Five) for four years of high school, but he's never had the nerve to tell her. Now that they're about to graduate he's finally worked up the courage to write her a soul-baring love letter. At the raucous graduation keg party that takes up most of the movie's 98 minutes, Preston agonizes while Amanda's selfish jock ex-boyfriend tries to win her back, and delivering his love letter turns out to be more difficult than he ever imagined. What's interesting about Can't Hardly Wait has little to do with its attractive leads, however. The most engagingly real and entertaining characters are the misfits who show up in the subplots, including a geek (Charlie Korsmo) who turns into the life of the party, and a pair of old friends (Seth Green, Lauren Ambrose) who confront each other about their mutual needs and insecurities. There are some really good scenes between these two, and this modest movie has a few other pleasant surprises up its sleeve. That doesn't make it particularly good, but it does make it an agreeable waste of time.
