    Movie synopsis

    Spectacular staging dots this widescreen deluxe Rodgers and Hammerstein musical as Gordon MacRae brings a blustery energy to the lead role of Billy Bigelow, a drifter and ne'er-do-well carnival barker. The troubled soul finally settles down with a good woman (Shirley Jones) but then gets stabbed to death while committing a robbery. Many years later, an angel offers the roustabout the chance to return to earth for just one day to makes things right for his unhappy wife and the daughter he never had the chance to meet. Based on the French play LILION by Ferene Molnar, CAROUSEL ranks among the better Rodgers and Hammerstein musicals, making it a classic by any standard. To boot, the film's tale of love between Bigelow and wife Julie rivals that of any other 1950s musical. Songs from the outstanding score include "If I Loved You," "June Is Busting Out All Over," and "You'll Never Walk Alone."

    I bought this DVD to replace my VHS tape I had worn out. It is a great movie for those who love musicals. I call it my 3 hankerchiefs movie because that is what I usually end up using. It is a love story, sad, yet heart-warming. Shirley Jones and Gordon MacRae did an outstanding job. The songs are simply fantastic.

    This is one of my favorite movies. I have also seen it at the play house. It is up there with music man, my fair lady, and many more. It tells a story of the way that time was, and and to this day still have not changed.

    I have always wanted to see this musical. It had some dancing in it. I was disappointed in it. It's overall theme was not happy. A guy who doesn't show much love for the girl, kills a man while trying to rob him. I tend to think of musicals as happy. But I can say I saw it. Not one I will see over again.

    there is much to like about this movie.
    It is an old musical , simple boy meets girl story.
    Boy gets girl.
    All is not happily ever after.
    While sad it is simplified reality.
    The movie is a musical.
    The song 'When You Walk Through A storm ; was from this
    -lovely movie.

    The simplicity is misleading ;
    tis covers many aspects of everyone lives.

    Most highly recommend this movie.
    Most of it is fun-light - escapes .

    A CLASSIC

    Created: 03/03/10
    Carousel is a wonderful, though sorrowful musical reflecting modern issues such as domestic violence, gambling, and alcoholism. It is a classic, and a must see. Performances are perfect, combining on stage and on location sites. Highly recommend.
