Celestron PowerSeeker 80 EQ 80mm Refractor Telescope

I wanted to give my grandson a good telescope for his birthday. I went to the usual toy stores and realized quickly that the telescopes that were sold there were indeed toys. I wanted to give him something that would last until he could pass it along to his kids. So Ebay was my next stop. I found the Celestron refractor telescope with an 80 mm lens, tripod and motorized mount for a price that was almost the same price as the toy store telescope. However this was a true astronomical instrument with a larger lens. (Larger lenses equal more light gathering power). My grandson was really overwhelmed with the present. So were my daughter and son=in=law. They are going to have to learn how to use it along with my grandson. It's another good reason for my wife and I to be with the family as we explore the cosmos.

As a first time telescope owner at 70 years old, I was amazed at the ease of assembly. The directions were complete and very understandable. The directions on how to set up and use the scope were very easy to understand and written so a first time owner should not have any problems. I have not found anything that I dont like about this telescope. Celestron was selected after reading Sky and Telescope Magazine, It appeared to be a quality product and a quality company, I was not disapointed. I decided to buy this telescope when it appeared on E bay at a price a retired income would allow, and as a buy it now item I was not tempted to bid more than I could afford.

I previously bought a telescope from amazon a friend's birthday. Not only did it arrive late, but it was defective as well. When saw this one, I realized it was a better value for the money that what I had paid before. My friend absolutely loves it. It arrived several days sooner than expected and it is perfect for star gazing, viewing the moon, and rings around Saturn.

a little hard to put together at first, but satisfied! it is a great value for the money.....nice looking telescope and great for beginners!
