The first Paenuts television special!
Created: 17/09/08
Charles M. Schulz created a remarkable legacy when brought the characters of the "Peanuts" comic strip to the newspapers of America. So, it only seemed a natural, obvious choice that his creation would be perfectly adapted for a television special during the holiday season of 1965. What started out as a simple idea for a "Peanuts" TV special would soon emerge into a series of programs that would help shape and define television animation entertainment into an entirely new direction. It was this very first special that is still regarded by many fans as perhaps the best in the entire series. "A Charlie Brown Christmas" debuted on the CBS network on December 9th, 1965; it has since become a regular holiday television tradition, each year recieving high ratings in every time slot that its presented in. This show is full of many of the classic "Peanuts" trademarks that have hepled to establish these characters as animation icons. Included are Charlie Brown visting Lucy at her psychiatric booth for 5 cents; Linus with his ever-present blanket; and Schroeder playing his piano. The most touching moment comes when under a spotlight, Linus quotes Scripture, particularly the second chapter of the Gospel of Luke, verses 8 through 14, in which angels from Heaven tell a group of initially frightened shepherds of the birth of the baby Jesus, and instructing them as to where they can "find the babe." This is classic "Peanuts" entertainment, that can be enjoyed all year 'round.

A Charlie Brown Christmas

I believe that this is one of the best nationally syndicated christmas programs made to date. I say this because first all it's a Charlie Brown Christmas special, second it really does tell the TRUE meaning of christmas a hint is ( not commercialism ) and last of all it does not contain any innapropriate content whatsoever. It really is a shame that a christmas show of this quality has not been been made in nearly 40 years. The show was intended to run in a 30 minute spot so actual time is only about 22 minutes. All in all it's a show our whole family loves to watch each year at christmas.

A rarity, a gem.

I love that this Christmas cartoon is the only one to have a character (Linus) recite the bible verse of what Christmas is. . .
CHARLIE BROWN : Isn't there anyone out there who can tell me what Christmas is all about?
LINUS VAN PELT : Sure, Charlie Brown, I can tell you. Lights, please. (A spotlight shines on Linus.) "And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the fields, keeping watch over their flocks by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the lord shone round about them, and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not, for behold, I bring unto you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you this day is born in the City of Bethlehem, a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; you shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel, a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, and on Earth peace, good will toward men'". That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.
How can you not rate that a 5 for excellent?

A Charlie Brown Christmas (1999, VHS)

This show is a classic. It is shown on television every year at Christmas time. It is the story of Charlie Brown and his friends discovering the "true" meaning of Christmas. It's not about the money spent on gifts but friends and family enjoying the season together. It's a definitely must see for any family during the holidays.
