Can't Wait for the Live Version
Created: 27/11/06
Charlotte's Web is a very good movie for the young and young at heart. For those who haven't seen it, it follows the life of a young girl, Fern, who sees her father about to do away with a runt pig. Feeling sorry for him, she takes him in and raises him as a pet. After he grows too big for the house Wilber the pig is taken to Fern's uncle's farm. Learning he will eventually be made into bacon Wilber befriends Charlotte the spider who ends up saving his life. Yes, this is the story of the writing in the web, coming of age, and friendship. With memorable characters like Templeton the rat, the baby sheep, goose and goslings and Charlotte's three children Joy, Arania, and Nelly, this movie is a memorable one. Now that the live version is coming out (starring Dakota Fanning) hopefully more people will see the original and read the book. It's well worth it!

Overall, an entertaining movie if you like the book/story. The animation for the animals is simple and cute (especially Wilbur) and most of the voice acting is good too, with the exception of Henry Gibson who I think is AWFUL as Wilbur. The songs are enjoyable in a cute sort of way as well, though it might annoy those averse to musicals.

My family loves this old movie featuring the voice of Debbie Reynolds. I bought this DVD to replace the VHS copy which my daughter took with her when she moved away from home recently. It is a very good G rated family film!

Timeless Classic

A 20 year old VHS tape of Charlotte's Web finally gave up the ghost. I was happy to find the original on DVD. Even though the kids are grown, I still like to watch it from time to time. Really, there's nothing I dislike about it.

I decided to buy this dvd because I loved it as a child and also the new Charlotte's Web is coming out and I wanted my 3 year old son to watch this older version to see if he would enjoy it before I take him to see the new one. He loved it, especially Wilbur and the other farm animals. There's just something about talking animals that entertains and amuses kids.
Things that are good about this older version is that it is timeless, even watching it now, I wouldn't think it was made over 30 years ago. The music is great and catchy. After viewing it, my son kept singing "Chin up, Chin up" throughout the day.
Definitely a good purchase at an inexpensive price!
