Cheaper By the Dozen 2 (DVD, 2006, Dual Side)

Adam Shankman, Steve Martin, Bonnie Hunt|Theatrical release: 2005 | Rating: PG (MPAA)

Movie synopsis

Steve Martin returns as the proud patriarch of the Baker family in this sequel to the original CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN, based on a book by Frank B. Gilbreth Jr. and Ernestine Gilbreth. This time, all twelve Baker kids and their parents, Tom (Martin) and Kate (Bonnie Hunt), are going on vacation, returning to their summer cabin in Wisconsin for one last hurrah before the kids grow up and go their separate ways. Lorraine (Hilary Duff) is on her way to New York to begin an internship with VOGUE, Nora (Piper Perabo) is hugely pregnant, and the Bakers want to spend some quality time all together for a change. As the family arrives at their old house, however, they realize that some things have changed--and some things never do. Tom's old high school rival, Jimmy Murtaugh (Eugene Levy) is now the big man about town, owning much of the surrounding area, and raising his large family in a huge home across the lake from the Bakers'. The longstanding competition between the two families--or at least that of the fathers--mounts over the course of their vacation, as the two men resort to ever nastier tactics of one-upsmanship. Meanwhile, Charlie Baker (Tom Welling) becomes closer with Anne Murtaugh (Jamie King), and Sarah (Alyson Stoner) embarks on her first romance with Eliot Murtaugh (Taylor Lautner). It all comes to a head when the two families face off in a canoeing race, during which they are faced with a decision between loyalty to family and friends, and the competitive edge.

Summer Fun in Wisconsin

Created: 05/06/06
The family seemed separated and Steve Martin reminisces with Bonnie Hunt how much fun they had as a family at the summer cabin. All twelve Baker kids and their parents, Tom (Martin) and Kate (Bonnie Hunt), are going on vacation to their summer cabin in Wisconsin for one last hurrah before the kids grow up and go their separate ways. When they arrive at their old house they realize things have changed. Tom’s rival, Jimmy Murtaugh (Eugene Levy) is now the Big Cheese and owns all the real estate. This is when the Father Tactics begin and the competition starts. Good family movie.

Better than the first?

Created: 17/06/06
This movie we saw because we loved the first remake. But if you really want to enjoy Cheaper by the Dozen you have to see the original movie. Kids love the storyline of the original. The original is just that and the setting is unreplaceable.
As for this sequel it was well done. The casting for the rich family was great and never would have thought of Euguene Levy and Carmen Elektra in a million years as the snobby competitive neighbors across the lake. Their robot of children were acted beautifully.
Hunt and Martin acted in this movie great. But Hunt definately came into her own in this movie vs the first one. What an actress she proved to be here.
The famous "meat scene" is done again with a rioutous switch. We were laughing through most of the movie which is the sign of a fun family movie to us.
This is a great movie to have for your home library. You will watch it over and over with enjoyment each time.

Cheaper by the Dozen 2

Created: 15/03/09
In this sequel to Cheaper by the Dozen, the family has one "last chance" to be together before the family starts outgrowing their home. This is a fun, family friendly film that helps an extended family stay connected. In this sequel old high school rivals learn that team work is still the best way to complete a task. Once again, the family comes together to defeat foes, and make new friends. Thumbs up!
