    Industry Reviews
"For too long, medicine has been insulated from the kinds of quality and process improvement that's become standard in all kinds of industries. In calling attention to the power of checklists, Gawande argues convincingly and eloquently for doctors to learn from others. After all, our lives may depend on it."
    (01/15/2010)

"This is a brilliant book about an idea so simple it sounds dumb until you hear the case for it. Atul Gawande presents an argument so strong that I challenge anyone to go away from this book unconvinced....[He] has written a short, readable, sensible book and is highly recommended."
    (01/07/2010)

"Sometimes a deeply complex problem has a deceptively simple answer. That is the underlying message of Atul Gawande's THE CHECKLIST MANIFESTO, which explains how a short, straightforward medical checklist can greatly reduce the chances of failure in life-or-death situations....Thoughtfully written and soundly defended, this book calls for medical professionals to improve patient care by adopting a basic, common-sense approach."

"Gawande...makes the case that checklists can help us manage the extreme complexity of the modern world....This is an important insight....THE CHECKLIST MANIFESTO is an essential primer on complexity in medicine."

Atul has written a lay-men's book about dealing with complexity in today's work world. If you are a check-list minded person, this book will re-inforce what you've known in your gut all along, but it will also help you understand better the why's and the other applications where check-lists are vital.
There's a very important message here also for Managers about sharing power and empowering all members in a process.
Nice statement about why the days of the "Master Builder" or the "virtuoso" are gone, and how a different model is in order.
    good read. Highly recommended.
p.s. You'll also be a little more aware the next time you get medical services.

    Excellent Book

    Created: 13/06/10
This book is written by a surgeon and deals with the use of checklists in medicine to avoid "stupid" mistakes - problems that happen when an "obvious" step is overlooked. I think that the principles outlined in this book are applicable in any profession. I am a teacher and I plan to come up with some checklists for class preparation for the upcoming academic year.
