Great music, Great BAND
Created: 02/06/10
First of all let me tell you that I didn't know about Chickenfoot, one afternoon I received a SMS from a cousin, telling me that Chicckenfoot is good rock...
I started to look for the band in the internet, when I realized the musicians that formed the band my mind and heart blown away.
That same day I went to a local store to find the CD and bought the regular... the first impression was kind of hesitating about what I heard.
After listening to it more than two times I was amazed with the sound a the songs structure. Then I satarted to look for the Special Edition (DVD included)
Regarding the music... I will tell how I feel every song.
1. Avenida Revolution, the first time I heard to it, I felt a strange sensation, because is slow and the rythm for me was hard to catch. However, listening carefuly it is possible to understand the intention of the band with the song, is great 3.5/5
2. Soap on a Rope, the very first riff is catchy and Sammy's vocals are great, the structure is kind of repetitive, but is a good song 3/5
3. Sexy Little Thing, with this song my perspective of the CD started to change, it has kind of country style and the lyrics are great 4/5
4. Oh Yeah, this is the soul of Chickenfoot, with this song I realize how the band enjoy to make music... just look for the video in YouTube and you will catch what I mean 4.5/5
5. Runnin' Out, wow, this song is ALA Van Halen, it could fit in those old 80's records (5150 & OU812) 4/5
6. Get it Up, this is the most rocker song of the CD, it has different type of vocals, Michael Anthony is a great bass player and his job as backing vocal can be appreciated here 4/5
7. Down The Drain, this is a song that was created from a jamming session, it is amazing the bluesy sense of the song, Satriani's riffs are great, and Sammy's vocals are amazing 5/5
8. My Kinda Girl, I love this song, is the kind of song that has great rythm, the chorus and the bridges are great, and again Michael's baking vocals are supreme 5/5
9. Learning to Fall, this is the ballad of the CD, it has deep lyrics and the music flows softly, at the end it is possible to take a deep breath full of life. 5/5
10. Turnin' Left, after a slow and clam song, Turnin' Left is the song that moves you a lot, with fast tempos and a catchy chorus, it's like Get it Up. 4.5/5
11. Future in the past, this is the reflexive song of the CD, is a great close of a great record, with this song you want to here the whole CD AGAIN!!!
After all, with Joe Satriani, Chad Smith, Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony in a band you can expect the best of the best in rock n' roll.
I can't wait for their next release early next year.
Go for it, you won't regret.

When I heard who was in this band; I knew that I had to get this cd. Sammy Hagar on vocals, Joe Satriani on guitar, Michael Anthony on bass, and Chad Smith on drums. A super group of the highest magnitude! Sammys' vocals as always are top notch. Joes' guitar work is in a class by itself; his playing here is very restrained when compared to his solo project. But; he is just trying to be a team player in this band, and not show everyone else up. Michael does a great job abusing his bass, and keeping rhythm with Chad. And I can honestly say that this is some of Chads' best drumwork to date. Songs like soap on a rope, sexy little thing, oh yeah, get it up, down the drain, my kind of girl. Will convince you that Hard Rock is alive and well. So; if you like quality hard rock, with superb vocals and musicianship. Then do yourself a favor and buy this cd; I absolutly love it.

Sammy & Chickenfoot really shine on this one!

From the beginning track "Avenida Revolucion" through all the songs ending with "Future in the Past" I was amazed at how much this Chickenfoot effort sounded like Van Halen's release OU812. With Michael Anthony on bass, I guess you can't help but to instantly pick up on the Van Hagar years with Sammy pluggin' away writing hit after hit and jammin' with Van Halen. Sammy wrote most of the 11 songs that are on this release, and let me tell you if your expecting a Waborita's style then you may be disappointed! Think late 70's Sammy solo + mid to late 80's Van Halen + the outstanding drummer Chad Smith from Red Hot Chili Pepper's fame + the awesome lead guitar put down by Mr. Joe Satriani and you will come to just one conclusion, it = a hard rockin' straight forward guitar laden romp with outstanding storytelling songs sung by a master! Folks their simply isn't a bad or mediocre song on this disk. I do have a few favorites though after listening to the disk front to back 4 times now. The opener Avenida Revolucion is my favorite, its in your face, has great lyrics and perhaps the best guitar licks on the whole cd. My 2nd favorite, and a close second to Avenida is the ultra catchy track 5 "Runnin' Out". If your a fan of Sammy, or if you liked the Hagar w/ Van Halen years, if your a fan of Satch (Joe Satriani), or just a fan of great hard rock music you'll absolutely love this cd! I guarantee it!

i love this debut by sammy hagar, joe satriani, chad smith (red hot chili peppers), & michael anthony (van halen). I read about this cd in guitar player magazine in an interview they did w/ sammy & "satch". i went on itunes to hear snatches of the songs before i bought it and was impressed w/ what i heard. This is just good, straight-up rock! I think joe satriani's guitar playing elevates it past what i've heard from sammy's band (i don't own any of his cds) and is more melodic/rhythmic than van halen. It always nice to find new rock that doesn't sound so new.

A Successful Debut

I am not sure whether Chickenfoot came to stay or it's just a side project, but whatever it is, it was worth the effort. It couldn't be wrong: an all-star team of rock music veterans getting together to deliver powerful and vibrant tunes.
In a few songs, like "Get It Up", when you hear the lead vocals by Sammy Hagar and the background vocals from Michael Anthony (apparently), it's impossible not to remind of Van Halen. In this particular song, an outstanding guitar solo right in the middle of it makes it more Van Halen-like, except that it is not Eddie playing, but no one else than the legend Joe Satriani.
However, despite some small passages, the effort has its own sonority, its own style, and provides us with a little more of the old and good arena rock that some of us miss so much these days, sometimes.
