Movie synopsis

CHILDREN OF MEN is not a popcorn movie. With its almost relentlessly bleak perspective on the future, Alfonso Cuarón's film doesn't make for pleasant viewing. But it's an exhilarating experience because the picture is an amazing dystopian drama that lacks all the typical trappings of the genre. Set uncomfortably close to the present, it paints a frighteningly realistic picture of the future. In 2027, every woman on earth is infertile. With the loss of the ability to have children, the world has also lost hope. Clive Owen (CLOSER) plays Theo, an Englishman attempting to make a life in a hellish world. His estranged wife (Julianne Moore) convinces him to help transport a young woman to safety. When Theo learns that the woman is pregnant, their journey takes on a significance--and a danger--he never imagined. This is Cuarón's best film to date, a strong statement considering his wonderful HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN and Y TU MAMA TAMBIÉN. Filmed using a handheld camera, the action draws the audience close, making the horror that much more real. In addition to its remarkable car-chase scenes, the film features impressive acting. With his expressive face and voice, Owen gives a nuanced performance that ranks with the best of his career. As a reclusive hippie, Michael Caine shares a charming counterculture view of the crumbling world. Chiwetel Ejiofor (DIRTY PRETTY THINGS) brings gravitas to the role of a terrorist. Just when the film threatens to overwhelm with its sense of dread, small moments of comedy show through in Owen's wry sense of humor and Caine's perfect delivery. When the credits roll, CHILDREN OF MEN leaves the audience feeling shell-shocked, not only because of its brutal prophecy, but also because of its brilliance.

Children of Men - I did love this one

Created: 15/07/07
Frighteningly possible in a future where disease could run rampant, fertility could become a thing of the past, countries could each become war/communist states within their own borders and anyone daring to cross would be subject to suspicion, automatic imprisonment - or worse.

Fast-paced, edgy, cling to your seat - scenery drab with only splashes of color here and there to "highlight" the intricacies of the plot.

Prepare to fear the future, as I said, because this one is definitely plausable.

I guess you're thinking I love all movies by now?? hehehehe

I base each movie by GENRE, as I said in one of my guides...and then how WELL it performs within it's genre.

I did wonder WHY Julianne Moore and my BELOVED Michael Caine would play roles in this one, when I first heard of it, as it didn't seem that it would be a big seller. Turns out they have only minor roles and the two of them do die soon, breaking my poor heart...but not so soon that you do not get to know them. (AND MICHAEL CAINE IS A CARD!!)

This one is NOT ONE you can walk away from. Turn the volume up full blast, don't miss a word. Don't leave the room. There are plots among plots among inner plots...you miss a word, you've missed the movie.

The worse movie I've had the displease of viewing.

Created: 09/08/07
I can only hope that people read this take me serious, that this was the worse made movie of all time and only a moron would say it was good. I also hope that you understand how much of a waste of time it is to watch this movie is !!!!!!!!!!!!!The original Concept was good ,but was this a total waste of time, within my life !!! This movie is the worst thing I've had the mispleasure of wasting two hours of my life and the thought of a possible sequeal OMG !!!!!!!!!!!

The novel by P.D.Williams is a great story, but this movie is a bit off base from the book. The hipe of having Julian Moore in the movie and then killing her off in less than 15 minutes.. Well that possible explains the whole movie. The filming is good, the plot is what brought me into seeing this movie, but the ending the middle and the beginning of the film SUCKED!!!

!!!!!!!!!!! Clive Owens was rumored at one time to be up for best actor for this role..OMG.......Well he plays a half@$$ role in a horrible film. I guess I'm not like most of the people who have seen it.. A close friend thought as others it was good, but I peronally thought it was a waste of time and money to make...

NOT WASTE YOUR TIME RENTING.. and DEFIANTLY DON'T BUY IT!!!!

IF YOU FOUND THIS THE BE TRUE THEN BY ALL MEANS PLEASE VOTE!!!!

Thanks and don't waste your time here..!!! I can see that other like me believe this was a waste, but others have thier option to think it was great too..OMG don't waste a couple of hours of your life here. If they even think of making a sequel then more people who are moron will go and see this horrible made movie.... please just put the thing on a shelf and leave it OVER EVER, LET IT GO !!!!!!

Wow what a movie in HD!

Created: 27/07/07
This movie by itself is excellent, but in Hi Def the wow factor goes through the roof. This is the first HD movie that has truly impressed me with what extras you can beyond standard DVD.

First of all the movie looks amazing. The light and dark contrasts are ridiculously good. This is a movie that has a whole lot of gritty colors in it and contrast couldn't be more important. The video is superb.

What I didn't expect and what impressed me the most was the sound. Gunfire is sudden, loud, and scary. I've been around firearms my whole life, and this is what they are supposed to sound like. You can actually easily tell the difference between weapons in firefights. Wow they sounds realistic as hell!

The movie itself is one of the most interesting Sci Fi flicks that I've seen in a really long time. Great plot. Amazing action that isn't campy at all. Fantastic acting....

Word of warning... this movie is not for the light hearted especially in Hi Def. It is really that intense. However, if you like a thrill rush and your heart beating, buy this movie right now. Well worth the price of admission.

Great movie from amazing director!

Created: 09/01/08
Clive Owen moves viewers in this story about a violent futuristic world in which humans can no longer procreate and war is widespread. Owen's character is enlisted to help smuggle a girl to the coast only to discover that she is heavily pregnant with the first child in years! Through powerful cinematography, great acting, and a solid screenplay Director Alfonso Cuaron guides Children of Men through a harsh and gritty world, all the while captivating audiences as its imagery washes over viewers bathing them in the value of human life and the simple beauty of hope in a seemingly hopeless world.

Visually assulting, great movie

Created: 19/03/07
Based on a novel by P.D. James, this is a dramatic view of the near-future. This story focuses on the world comming to an end due to women being unable to bear children. Cuarón directs a great cast which includes a fantastic performace by Clive Owen. This is an action packed thriller that acts more like a chase movie but it works so well!
