Christine (1999, DVD)
Created: 19/01/09
Based on the best-selling Stephen King novel, CHRISTINE is a dark and violent film about the dangers of obsession. When a unpopular young man, Arnie (Keith Gordon), buys a vintage car to restore, it changes his life completely. The more he works on the car, which he names Christine, the more his personality changes. He becomes moody and dark, spending more and more time with the car and less and less with his friends. The friends become concerned as Arnie's passion for the automobile turns to extreme, and he becomes unstable. But the car has powers over the young man, and takes on a life of its own, becoming as obsessed with its new owner as he is of it. Their devotion to one another quickly becomes violent, and separating Arnie from the car is a deadly task for his friends. With CHRISTINE, director John Carpenter delivers a faithful adaptation of the book by Stephen King. One master of horror adapting another's work seems ideal, and the results are as powerful as expected. With Carpenter's ability to make the supernatural seem plausible, even commonplace, the film excels in evoking plenty of scares and nail biting from the audience.

Oooohhhh A Possessed Car! Not Very Scary
Created: 27/09/06
Based on the Stephen King book of the same name, Christine is a story of a boy with low self esteem who gains confidence as he restores a vintage car. Of course this new found confidence comes from the love and validation the car gives him - cause it is possessed. Whoever comes between the guy and his car gets run over/squished etc.
Sorry but I am not big on possessed anything - maybe a possessed person, but inanimate objects just don't do it for me. Oh, wait! How about the clown in Poltergeist or the dummy in Magic (or was it all in Anthony Hopkins' head), those were actually creepy so I stand corrected. Watch those movies instead of this one.
Still, a possessed car just does not seem that scary to me. Very average 80's horror filler.

My son had seen the "Made for Television" version last week & said they left out a great deal !! I found this DVD & liked all the options they had, like CLOSED CAPTION,etc. It turned out to be ALL WE WANTED TO SEE. The SWEARING might offend some but the PLOT was easier to follow with it.
It was great to see John Travolta, very young with a Curly MOP haircut, play the part of a High School Tough Guy. The acting was VERY GOOD and I will always remember what parts of this DVD had that we miss in the cut down TV Version. I can't help but wonder how many Cars they destroyed for this Movie??
