The Great Rupert (in A Christmas Wish)

Created: 08/08/08
This DVD is out using two different titles - "The Great Rupert" and "The Great Rupert in A Christmas Wish". The first title is more honest. The only mention of Christmas is in the first 10 minutes of a very long 88 minutes when the family buys a Christmas tree and sings one Christmas carol. Jimmy Durante, is, well, Jimmy Durante. You love him or you don't (I fall in the second catagory). I knew going in that Rupert is a squirrel. The DVD case sings the praises of the "Academy Award Winning Puppetoon Dimensional Animation". Maybe in 1950 (the year of the movie) this was exceptional animation but I cannot begin to describe how bad it is. Fortunately, Rupert has very minor screen time. I love the old fashion, corny Christmas stories that we often see but this was just bad and as I stated earlier, not a Christmas story. My advise is same your money and 88 minutes of your life.

Just finished watching this movie, the reason I ordered it was because I missed the entire movie that was recently on TCM on TV. This dvd was enjoyable but due to the fact that this movie is over 50 years old the clarity in some areas was not the best nor was the sound in certain areas, although even though due to this I still enjoyed it, I wish I really could have recoreded it from the TV when it was on I am sure I would have gotten better quality.
