The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (Xbox, 2004)

Product description

Product Information
A game prequel to the film series featuring the sinister ex-criminal from the films Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick. The game features an advanced graphics engine which makes extensive use of normal mapping and other advanced texturing techniques in a first-person shooter/adventure game starring Vin Diesel as the titular anti-hero. The character Riddick has heightened sensory abilities that allow him to see and hear beyond normal human ranges and these abilities are engaged whenever he's crouched in "stealth mode." You'll have the option to use different combinations of stealth, action and even the environment to your advantage.

One of my all-time favorite Xbox games!

Created: 09/01/07
This game just totally kicks butt. I'd say that it blends aspects of Halo (awesome first-person shooter action), Splinter Cell (stealth), and Grand Theft Auto (lots of missions to complete, usually below-level and for seedy characters like prison inmates), for a fully immersive gaming experience. The graphics are probably the best I have ever seen on Xbox, and the AI is extremely challenging to deal with -- the enemies are both intelligent and persistent.

Like Splinter Cell, the real challenge is to achieve your goals stealthily, but in many cases it's more fun to intentionally get detected and crack some skulls. Riddick has some serious finishers -- you can grab someone's rifle as they try to hit you with it or shoot you, and you end up pointing it at their head as they blow their own head off. You can also approach from behind and break someone's neck, slit their throat, bust their legs with a club, to name a few.

The characters in the game are constantly interacting with each other, so it can be very entertaining to listen to their conversations. It can also be beneficial to the player, as some key information, needed in order to complete some of the side missions, is learned this way.

I wish this game would have gone on forever -- I never got enough of it, and actually played it all over again once I got thru it. As others have noted, this game is extremely violent and contains (prominently) some foul language, so it's not for young children. BUY THIS GAME AND ENJOY!

One Way Ticket to a No Daylight Slam

Created: 19/07/10
This is another one of the life stories of Riddick. Vin Diesel reprises his role as Riddick, a ruthless killer/mercenary. In the movies, he only looks out for himself, in the game you chat with the other inmates and do little jobs for them and in return receive info to help you get out of Butcher Bay. The animations look great, the cut scenes are abit long but once viewed can be skipped. The language in some scenes is definitely NOT for kids. The fight controls need alot of work as basically you can hit and block the entire time in a fight and you'll always win, not very challenging. It would of been nice to also be able to access the Furian Energy riddick has as part of his weapons arsenal but instead they give you "Brass Knuckles" as well as other items found in a prison. As a fan of the series I would recommend this to anyone but I would of liked to have seen more done in the game. 3.5-4 stars.

I think this is one of the great stealth action games of our time. It starts at the beginning with action and has action-filled fun through the entire game! You can use things from fists and a screwdriver to a shotgun and rifle. It is a very bloody and brutal game, though. If you have children, keep them away from the screen when you play. The graphics and voicing are excellent! Very great game!

Movie Games Suck ...... not this one

Travel back in time with Riddick, as this game preludes all the movies. You learn all about Riddick and even how he gains his Eye Shine. This game is a truely outstanding action/strategy game. Very graphic and brutal. Definitely not for children. Graphics are top notch, voice talent is top notch (Vin Desiel actually does Riddick's voice). Can't say enough about this one.

I love FPS games, and this is an excellent one. With this, you can run and gun, but in many areas it's more advisible to use the stealth mode. If you like first person shooters, you should check this one out.
