Publisher's NoteRon Walden's life has taken him from Idaho, where he was born, to Alaska, where he retired to fish, fly airplanes, and write. Ron grew up working in his family's business until he joined the U.S. Air Force. As an aircraft mechanic and flight engineer, Mr. Walden traveled the world. His Air Force travels and experiences allowed him to learn about and appreciate different lands, cultures, and people; a fascination that lives with him today. After his honorable discharge, Ron added to his cultural knowledge by working underground in the silver mines, running his own business, doing stints in Idaho sawmills, driving logging trucks, and selling life insurance. In 1973, he fulfilled his lifelong dream and moved to Alaska, he became a jail guard with Alaska's Kenai Peninsula. Soon after relocating in Alaska, he became a jail guard with Alaska Department of Corrections, which profession he retired from in 1990. When Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait, Mr. Walden was recruited as a security guard to protect Prudhoe Bay and the Trans Alaska Pipeline from sabotage. When the Gulf War ended, he returned to life of a retired gentleman. Ron, grandfather of nine, resides in Soldotna, Alaska with his wife, Betty. He's a pilot and owns a Piper PA-14 Family Cruiser. When Ron isn't fishing or hunting camp or a fishing hole -- mostly in Alaska's remote backcountry.
