Love the Civil War and this puts me there with women.

I bought "The Civil War Diary Quilt" book several weeks ago and I love it. We are both followers of the Civil War and this book puts me right there with the ladies quilting during the war. I am also a quilter and live the old quilts. The quilts are wonderful to look at and the diary entries are so expressive, makes you feel like you are living during that time. The only problem, if any, is that the patterns for the quilts are not included in black and white and must be copied from the book for paper piecing. If you ae interested in the Civil War or quilting this is a must for your collection.

I loved this book. Each page has a quilt block while the facing page has diary entries of a variety of young ladies who kept up their diaries during the Civil War. It takes you into the homes, lives and hearts of the people who where in the middle of the battling war. You experience their fears, joys, grief and day-to-day lives as the soldiers came through battle or were leaving for the battlefields. It is a real history lesson in the comfort of the quilts.

Civil War Diary Quilt

I completed an Under Ground Railroad quilt per Eleanor Burns' book.
Have become fascinated with all aspects of the Civil War.
Hubby collects Civil War relics, swords and certain period weapons.
This book, The Civil War Diary Quilt is the life of women who quilted during the Civil War. Their hearts were poured out in their writings about everyday life and the uncertainties of their very existence.
You see in your own minds eye the sufferings and courage these women really had with their loved gone off to fight a war that no one won. NO one wins at war.

Interesting look at the Civil War. Fascinating stories to go with the blocks. Would like clear directions for making the block, as in "The Farmer's Wife - sampler quilt."

As a living historian and novice quilter, this book combines both of these passions and hobbies. Easy to understand quilting directions, and great background and pictures of women, along with excerpts from their diaries. I love this book!
