Classic Musicals 50 Movie Pack (DVD, 2005, 12-Disc Set)

I bought this as a just-because-we-love-you gift for my mother-in-law, who loves classic musicals. DH & I are big old movie fans as well, so I was looking forward to see which of our favorites were included in this set.
I was disappointed when I read the list of titles: all were obscure. I didn't recognize even one of them. I did know all the performers; the casts included all the best and brightest singing and dancing actors of the 20th century.
I assume that the low cost of this collection was accomplished by using lesser known films, while keeping the quality by staying with the best talent.
Now, I was not around when these were made, so I am sure that many who are actually of that generation will recognize some of these films. My M-I-L assures me that she does, but then again, she is very polite.
Expect to see fine singing and dancing, but don't look for "Singing in the Rain"

This is a wonderfull collection of classic movie musicals that will make you laugh a cry, and just want to make you get up and sing and dance!! I reccommend this collection to any person who loves classic movies and stars!

Really enjoyed this set of classic musicals, and would welcome more. Although some of them are not as good as others (story wise, and due to time, film quality), the batch is still a treat to see. These visions of the past show great talent has no time-line.
Many artist of today could learn a lot about entertaining people without hitting them on the head with a sledge hammer and NOISE. Unlike much of today's music nothing I heard in these movies harms the listener's hearing, nor do the performers look and act angry, or dress foolishly, or disrobe. Instead, we are wonderfully entertained by great talent.

I like the chance to see old musicals from the 1930's on. Some of them are well done, others are either very "corny" or have very little music or the film was in such poor condition it is almost painful to watch. A few are so out of date and politically incorrect they are impossible to watch in today's world. But getting 50 films, many with well-known early movie stars, for such a reasonable price makes the collection well worth it.

This DVD set got my interest because of so many titles that I wasn't familar with. Has a good mix-some well known, some obscure. A chance to see something different. And mayme see some stars in their first or earlier roles.
